What did you do?

For those that have gotten married during this crazy time with dancing restrictions, what did you do to keep your reception fun? What I've heard, although I can't find anything online, is in NY you can't dance at receptions and I feel like that's just going to make it extremely boring. Just having people sit at their tables for 4 hours with nothing to do sounds like the making of a terrible reception.

For our minimony we will include a couple of games and toasts. I’m really looking forward to the “shoe game” I think our guests will really enjoy it.

As for our big wedding next year, if there are still dance restrictions we will probably just postpone because I agree with you, that it’ll be kinda boring and that’s something we were really looking forward to

So this doesn’t have to do with covid weddings but I was at a wedding last year where they didn’t have a dance floor or dancing and it was 4 hours and we actually thought it was fun but that’s because everyone just mingled amongst themselves. So it might seem boring but people can definitely keep themselves entertained

Yes! I love a good game. I think as long as there's some good tunes in the background and a steady flow between self mingling and a few structured games that the MC knows how to run, it should be lovely!

    The Shoe Game

Wedding Bingo - instead of numbers like a traditional bingo you can make the cards be fun facts about the two of you. So then people can mark off their card and learn a little something too!

If you have a few married couples, you can do the anniversary game or the newly wed game
Before covid, we were going to do 3 raffle baskets of our favorite things/dates: 1 football date basket (we met where I went to college and where he works), 1 half and half (things I like and things he likes), 1 explore your city basket with tickets to the aquarium, our fave restaurant etc.
If your venue has a patio or outdoor space, some giant games like connect 4 or jenga are fun crowd pleasers
I also like to look up table games on pinterest and at play party plan blog

Hi Ashley! In PA we also have dance restrictions. We were allowed significant dances only, so I added a surprise dance with my Man of Honor and my husband added a surprise dance with his grandmother. The last half hour, guests did dance but we didn’t plan on it. Like other posts, guests mingle way more than I expected. Before our wedding I had the same concerns as you, but to my surprise guests were so entertained by our first dance, cake cutting, and just thrilled to actually dress up and go out. To my total surprise, everyone had a fabulous time! So excited for you and confident you will have a great outcome! ❤️❤️❤️
