What did you bring with you to your wedding dress appointment?

Ashley, on October 7, 2013 at 10:37 PM Posted in Planning 0 24

Hey everyone. I have 2 appointments scheduled for Saturday, November 9 (I am getting really excited!) to shop for my wedding dress. I tried searching here for this same topic. So I am wondering what did you bring with when you tried on dresses? One of the two shops specifically said there will be a consultant in the fitting room with me while I get into the dresses. I am just wondering if you wore a pair of boy short undies or what? I am not interested in totally mooning this person haha. Also if a strapless bra I use in the summer will work or if I should pick up cups or a longline bra ahead of time? I am clueless and times like these wish my mom was still around to ask these sorts of questions! Thanks ladies Smiley smile

If you are going to be wearing heels on your wedding day bring some with you to your appointment. A strapless bra you wore in the summer is fine as long you like the way it looks everyday. I wore a strapless bra that didn't flatter my bust and it made the dresses I tried on look funny. At first I wore booty shorts and I still didn't feel comfortable around the consultants so I started wearing a very thin fitted skirt. If you have a strapless one piece slip that will work great too.

I wore boy shorts and a regular bra. I simply stuck the straps into the cups as I was trying gowns on. You really need the long line bra or proper strapless bra when you do your fittings but I didn't find it necessary during the shopping process. I also took a bottle of water because it can get hot getting in and out of those dresses and a pair of comfortable heels. Also don't forget a camera to take pics of you in the dresses. Those pics will come in handy later on as you try to decide which gown to choose should you find more than one gown you like.

Davids bridal provided me with the strapless bra and crinoline. I wore full cover underwear but the consultant didn't have to be in the room while I slipped into the gown, only to help zip it up/button up/etc.

I wore boy shorts and a strapless bra. Didn't bother with the shoes. I used the dresses hem to decide my shoe heel height.

I wore spanx. Ugly but full coverage. I wore a strapless bra, but had to get out of it to see the effect if the back of my dress. The girl got a boob show. Whatevs. Oh and pearls or whatever necklace you might want to wear. Ohhh! And I brought lotion in case my hands were rough, it wouldn't pull at the dresses.

OMG On Threee needs to GET OUT OF HERE. UGH.

Anyway, I wore bikini-style underwear and a strapless bra. Consultants see everything-- people show up without underwear on, so they'll be happy as long as you're wearing something! I went to five shops (I think) and someone helped me into dresses at 4 of them.

eta: Most of the dresses you'll try one won't fit properly, so I don't think you need to worry too much about bra styles.

I wore a regular strapless bra and boy shorts. I didn't have a consultant in the room with me for every appointment but I did have one that thanked me for not wearing some skimpy thong as she did help me into and out of the dresses. I didn't take shoes because I'm 5'2 so every dress was waaay too long for me...but I will be taking my shoes to my first fitting to figure out the length.

I wore regular undies *not a thong* and a strapless bra- The consultants are all up in your business trying to put you into the dresses so you will become fast friends!!! Oh I also wore high heels so I could try them on with the dresses

I wore a strapless and cute boy shorts both times I went. The first shop I went to was very fancy and they stayed in the fitting room the whole time to make sure you didn't take any pictures with the dress on... it was kind of awkward. The second place I went to was more laid back and my mom helped me in and out of the dresses and we snuck a few pics too =) So bring a camera just in case you get a chance to snap a picture or two

I brought my courage. I hate the fact that wedding gown sizes are not the same as street clothes sizes. I didn't want to feel or look too big. I curse those bright lights, lol

the other brides are correct, I don't know why but you will get thirsty. Bring a cold bottle of water and not too many people. It was me & my daughter, her opinion matter most to me. My mother is deceased.

Yea ... i'd avoid the thong if you are going to a shop that isn't David's. Not only did my consultant stay in the room the whole time with me, but so did everyone I brought with me. Now that I'm thinking about it, I'm surprised by how laid back I was about this. It was me, my Mom, my cousin (MOH), her mom, my FMIL and my future step-daughter. What the heck was I thinking? haha

Anyway -- Full coverage undies and maybe a strapless bra so you can see what it looks like in certain dresses. Sometimes it can change the whole look/fit.

I brought no one when I found the dress! Just myself and glad I did. I think the more suggestions you have the more it confuses you. The first time I tried on dresses I went with my friends.

Gosh, I will never foirget the experience at a popular wedding bridal store. It was so overwhelming and exhasuting. And I agree wear strapless bra and bring your heels. Undies, well just regular underwear. I had on some shorts and kept them on.

I hated the attendants helping me get into the dresses. then they have 3other brides at the same time so you are waiting for them for 30 mins just to get a size change whilst they tend to others. Needless to say YUCK!

When I found my dress, it was at a small boutique, the attendant had only me, and I pretty much tried on th dresses myself with some help here and there from her. The price was awesome 499.99. Gorgeous on me no alterations. Simple and traditional.

Boy shorts and if you have shoes you know you're going to wear, bring them. An inch in either direction can get nasty so having the proper height for your seamstress will help. Also, I haven't done it yet, but I've been advised by my bride friends that you need the bra you'll be wearing. Obviously the girls fluctuate a tad, but the bra will give them the average size. GOOD LUCK!

One of the bridal shops I went to had MALE bridal consultants that helped zip you up. I am not even sure of their sexuality. I brought heels, lacy boyshorts (I didn't have anything fuller coverage) and a strapless bra. Also bring a hair clip if you want to try different hair styles with dresses.

Edit: My heels were not my wedding shoes, just some of a height I thought I might buy for my wedding day.

I wore undies that kept me covered, and a regular bra, just tucked the straps under when needed. All the shops except David had a consultant help me into and out of dresses, which I much preferred over Davids (she was always off doing something else, and the room wasn't big enough for my mom, so I always had to wait for her to close the back of the dress). Water is so needed, it was honestly an exhausting experience.

I didn't even think about this before going and had a thong on. Lol luckily I was going to David's and they gave me a long-line bra on and a slip to put on for under the dresses so my consultant didn't have to see my bare rear end. My sister helped me into the slip, but my consultant helped me into all the dresses. But if you're going anywhere else, may want something with more coverage. And your regular strapless bra should be fine.

I also would recommend water. I was extremely hot and thirsty.
