My mom got the world's best advice for being the MOG- "wear beige and keep your mouth shut". LOL. ...pretty sure that color goes w/ anything. Smiley smile she could always add a splash of your colors (shoes, jewelry, etc)- or just give her a corsage w/ them

And here I was wishing I knew the answer to that myself, since I am to be MOG in a few months and would really like to get going on finding a dress!

Seriously, not everyone even coordinates the mothers with the wedding colors. And if you do, typically the mother of the bride chooses her outfit first, and the mother of the groom tries to coordinate her dress with the MOB's. Given your colors, you might want the mothers in a lighter version of one your colors (e.g., grey or lavender), a darker version (e.g., gold), or jewel tones that went with the purple but weren't the same color.

It honestly doesn't matter to me what the MOG wears. As long as she feels lovely and confident, I am happy for her to wear whatever she chooses.

If both she and the bridal party are wearing dark purple, would it be the same color? Or are they a bit different?

My MIL wore Brown to go with the guys, her choice, she did use rather large beaded necklace and bracelet She looked great.

My groom wore chocolate brown pants and ivory shirt with a golden vest and tie.

@Cherie M.: If they are different colors of dark purple, you'd really need to look at them next to each other to see if they would clash.

    Black or purple?

    should be fine

i never understood why it matters that much, as long as it's not white or ivory or scandalous.

because even if someone wore fire engine red, not tight or too short and not loud or obnoxious, that should be fine too.

I would suggest black, since that's an easy color to wear again. But if she's found a purple one that she loves, then she should get it even if the colors are just a bit different.

The groom's mother should wear any other color than what your mother is wearing. In other words they should not match. Lol.

I would think something neutral. I really didn't mind what the Moms wore as long as they didn't wear the wedding colors. I didn't want them looking like a BM. Here are our Moms.........mine is in champagne and his is in navy blue
