What are you serving at your wedding?

Taylor, on April 8, 2019 at 8:59 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 50
FH and I are leaning towards a breakfast buffet (for dinner; 4pm ceremony with reception to follow) with a donut tower instead of a traditional cake. Our favorite meal is breakfast for dinner and since we are having an outdoor December ceremony we think coming inside to a hot breakfast would be so fun. Plus we think it would be nice to have a break from more traditional meals since our wedding is smack dab in between Thanksgiving and Christmas and people might be a little burned out on the usual. We’re thinking bacon, sausage, fried chicken (which would also serve as alternate) eggs, grits, hash browns, etc. with a cheese and fruit spread and possibly a waffle station with different toppings (idk if that would be too much with the donut tower). And for the bar maybe beer and wine with different mimosas. Idk, it’s just a thought for now. Any feedback is appreciated also I would love to hear what everyone else is serving!

I love breakfast but can’t help but think not everyone does specially for dinner. My husband doesn’t really like breakfast at any time of the day and I’m sure there’s more people like that. As unique and excited this sounds I think it would be best if you have two food stations. Maybe a breakfast one along with something different that complements or substitutes for those that prefer not to have breakfast.

Oops, I did put on there that I would have chicken that would also serve as an alternate but didn’t really talk about alternate sides but I love your idea of a double buffet!

Agreed, I looooove breakfast food, but maybe all your guests don't! However, you can take that with a grain of salt, it should be what you want!

I'm boring, italian food all the way for me!

A BBQ buffet! BBQ sandwiches with 3 different meats, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, and a salad.

We will most likely go out for brunch within walking distance of the ceremony.

I truly think as long as your event matches , nbd! I'm sure there would be a cute way to do the invitations! I would definitely go with the waffle station also.

Love the waffle station idea! And your idea of having chicken with toppings for those who don’t want breakfast is a good idea! Maybe a combo of fries and grilled chicken?

    Two things

1 Since the reception is a thank you for attending your wedding, the food you serve needs to take their preferences and expectations into consideration. While you can't make everyone happy, you should keep them in mind.

2 Is your wedding occuring in a place where guests will be comfortable being outside without being cold? Realize that guests will be outside for at least 10-15 minutes prior to the ceremony as well as afterwards. If they will need to bundle up in coats, gloves, and scarves, or even want a blanket on their laps, it's rude to expect them to be outside for the ceremony. If it'll be 70° with reasonable humidity, go for it!

Loooove this idea! I would be so excited to go to a wedding that served breakfast for dinner. I’m just having the typical steak, chicken, fish, and vegetarian options.

What a great idea! So many people love breakfast for dinner! How refreshing! We are doing the traditional chicken, steak, maybe salmon options, but we're going in for our tasting on Friday this week to find outstanding sides. We will be trying pepperjack cheese broccoli, bacon mac and cheese, and twice baked potatos, plus others. The venue lady said one couple served ONLY bacon mac n cheese. I love that idea too!

Totally hear ya! I saw something on pinterest I think in relation to the blanket thing...they had a big basket of those cheaper rolled up fleece blankets as a use now and take home as a ghanks for coming thing. Maybe offer this if it is going to be chilly?

1 Absolutely, that’s why I fully intend to have an alternate meal no matter what we serve so there are options for everyone. Things are still up in the air with what we will serve.

2 our wedding will be just outside of Charleston, SC I’ve lived here all my life and it usually feels like summer time year round lol but the ceremony will be on a covered patio and I will probably be renting those clear tarp wall things (lol idk the actual term) to hang on the sides if there is unbearable wind chill or rain as an emergency precaution.

For all the people saying all guests might not like breakfast - what about weddings serving Mexican food? Or offering two dishes - chicken and fish? Lol, nothing is going to please everyone's tastes.

You completely missed my point. If blankets are needed, it's too cold for an outside wedding.

I know Charleston too well. I have friends who would turn their air-conditioning on so that they could use their fireplace on Christmas morning. I suspect you'll be good to go, at least it's unlikely to rain!
