What are you serving at your wedding?

FH and I are leaning towards a breakfast buffet (for dinner; 4pm ceremony with reception to follow) with a donut tower instead of a traditional cake. Our favorite meal is breakfast for dinner and since we are having an outdoor December ceremony we think coming inside to a hot breakfast would be so fun. Plus we think it would be nice to have a break from more traditional meals since our wedding is smack dab in between Thanksgiving and Christmas and people might be a little burned out on the usual. We’re thinking bacon, sausage, fried chicken (which would also serve as alternate) eggs, grits, hash browns, etc. with a cheese and fruit spread and possibly a waffle station with different toppings (idk if that would be too much with the donut tower). And for the bar maybe beer and wine with different mimosas. Idk, it’s just a thought for now. Any feedback is appreciated also I would love to hear what everyone else is serving!

I love breakfast any time of day. A waffle station sounds great. The only thing that would make it even better for me would be to have a coffee and hot chocolate bar.

No. I got your point. I was just trying to come up with a kind way to let the bride have options for an outside, cooler wedding if she so chooses.

Wow, that sounds great and very creative!
We’re having a rustic wedding and doing Bbq...pulled pork sandwiches, brisket, chicken, Mac n cheese, baked beans, salad and coleslaw. FH would not budge from having a traditional cake so we will serve that for dessert!

Looove! We love breakfast and brunch so much we had a boozy brunch wedding dance party on a Sunday at 11am. Our venue was a restaurant so they came up with a custom menu and 6 signature brunch cocktails.

We welcomed guests with mimosas, passed chicken in waffle batter, an entire brunch buffet with pork belly and soft boiled eggs, vegetable breakfast strata, stuffed french toast, home fries, salad, fruit,
We finished up with croissants and muffins, and some homemade Italian cookies from his grandma, Filipino and Chinese desserts from my mom.
Last savories and sweets: passed meatball with maple glaze, and ricotta and honey on bruschetta.

    Hungry now!
I am a big fan of making your wedding special and your own. Food definitely plays a big part if you're able to have vendors or caterers that will make it happen! Im biased but I would easily have breakfast food for a wedding even if it was in the evening. All your dishes sound amazing. Waffle bars could be fun and if they're Belgian waffles they can be quarters or smaller rather than a whole thing. Mix sweet and savory if you can!
We went to a wedding and my favorite was a late night hot biscuit with some cheese or jam.
    Yesssbreakfast!

Here's what we're doing, June wedding 5:30 ceremony time in NY:

What are you serving at your wedding? 1

vanilla cake, custard filling, light semi-naked layer caramel buttercream:

What are you serving at your wedding? 2

Maybe some panna cotta w. raspberries as an additional dessert:

What are you serving at your wedding? 3

we're also doing beer/ wine/ liquor at the bar.

I think personally it's up to you because you know your crowd, and it's both a combination of what you like and what your crowd will like. In my opinion, I have seen a lot of people on here go wayyyy too hard with one direction or the other (either catering entirely to their crowd without anything the couple actually likes, or making it way too focused on only the esoteric things the bride and groom like while confusing their guests) - I think there's an awesome middle ground out there - you know your people, breakfast for dinner could be AMAZING - but I'd say to get some feedback from your families and friends Smiley smile

Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day, I would just make sure you add some substantial breakfast foods in the buffet if people are drinking, maybe some different kinds of breakfast casseroles, different quiches etc. We're having a buffet of chicken, beef tenderloin, vegetarian dish, roasted veggies, garlic mashed potatoes, garden salad and rolls

Because my FH are footing everything, we decided to have a dessert-styled reception. Seeing that it'll be in the afternoon we figured we can do that. And plus, we both love sweets! Smiley smile We actually gave it a name, "Sutton Sweet" (My future last name Smiley laugh) Reception and of course, we indicated that on our invites. We are looking forward to a great time!

I totally love the idea of breakfast for dinner at your wedding! It will be a meal no one will forget.

We're having very standard Italian banquet hall food. Antipasto bar, risotto and pasta course, meat course, dessert. Nothing special lol.

I like the breakfast for dinner idea, but that's because I could eat breakfast whenever. You may have guests that won't be too pleased, though. I'm thinking you could create flex meals (think steak and eggs, chicken and waffles, breakfast burgers, breakfast burritos) where the protein can flex with alternate, less-breakfast type sides for those that don't care for breakfast maybe? I think the only way to do this though, is with a couple different stations. Maybe an omelet station with the steak, waffle station with the fried chicken, sides station with breakfast potatoes and mashed potatoes??

That would be so unique to do breakfast for dinner! We love doing french toast and bacon for dinner if we're feeling lazy haha. Might have that tonight now that you've put the idea in my brain lol.

Our dinner is at 3pm and we're doing a buffet style meal. BBQ chicken, veggie lasagna, salad bar, roll with butter, cheesy potatoes, and the Wisconsin blend of veggies (corn, carrots, and green beans) with herbed butter over the veggies.

I love this! Such a great idea! It's different and what you all love which is the point of your wedding day. If people don't like it they'll stop and get food after. I've been to a couple weddings where the 'traditional' served food was not what I liked. Does it matter what I thought? Nope, just that the Bride and Groom had a great day.

THIS! I think if you want to do breakfast for dinner - you should! If you offer hearty options for those who don't like sweet breakfast, that's all you need to do. If you have a breakfast meal and then try to appease others with "not breakfast" items, your theme is lost.

I went to a wedding with a taco bar (I LOVE tacos) my dad doesn't - you know what he did? ate what he liked from it and life went on.

We're doing a buffet but we're not doing breakfast, though I love the idea! We'll be serving:

Meal: Pulled Roast Beef, Pulled Pork, Pulled Turkey

Sides: Mashed Potatoes, Mac n' cheese, 3 Types of gravy (Beef, Pork & Turkey), Corn, Green Beans, and Rolls

Drinks (Non-alcoholic (But people can bring their own alcohol if they want it)): Pepsi, Dt Pepsi, Dr. Pepper, Mountain Dew, Sprite, Root Beer, Water, Sweet Tea, Unsweet Tea

Dessert: Wedding cake (5 different flavors); Red Velvet w CC, Carrot w CC, Dark Chocolate w Cookies n cream, White Chocolate w Rasp. Filling, White Cake w Bettercream Frosting.

We are also thinking since it's a Fall wedding about having like Apple pie and pumpkin pie, but I doubt we will since we'll have so much cake.

I have not sat down with my venue yet to choose food for my guests. I still have a way to go before I choose what is being served at my wedding.

Not necessarily true, besides if those people are attending one of the most important days of your life they should just be supportive and tough through for the 30 minutes a ceremony takes.

Im having my wedding in November in Virginia. The ceremony will be held outside, and I WILL be offering blankets and hot beverages. I’ve stated on my wedding website that the ceremony will be outside and to dress accordingly. People can make it work.

How about we try and not be so nagative, thanks! Smiley smile
