What about the vendors?

Amanda, on September 1, 2016 at 5:53 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 23

I'm trying to budget things out and get quotes for things like catering, drinks, and cake. I know I have to feed my vendors but should I also budget for drinks for them? I'm assuming because they're working they would not be drinking but you never know these days. Plus I should be including them on the cake count, right? (Everybody deserves cake!) Are there any things I'm forgetting??

I don't believe you count them in for alcohol.. they should not be drinking on the job.

I definitely don't think they should be drinking alcohol on the job so I wouldn't budget for that. Are any of your vendors staying after they are done like your officiant? That would be different.

Okay so that's good because I wasn't budgeting for that already but I just wasn't sure. Are any of you providing cake for the vendors?

We will be budgeting for extra cake for our vendors and a meal of course but not alcohol.

I included mine on both ONLY because I wouldn't have met the venue's minimum without them. The photographers didn't drink and my DJ didn't even eat.

We made sure that vendors got the same meal as every other guests included cake and cookies. I've seen a lot of time you can do a vendor meal though. I actually asked the wedding coordinator to please add our vendors to where they needed to be as far as alcohol was concerned. I wasn't sure but there was a different charge for under 21 compared to over 21. They put them in the under 21 section for just water, coffee, tea, soda.

No for alcohol yes for food. Although if my vendors want a beer I'm not going to be like hell no.

Any pro should not drink alcohol. We are including them in the count for cake and rentals and food.

I am not counting my vendors for alcohol or cake. Only one vendor specified a meal in a contract. I had told her previously that dinner will be provided to all vendors and their assistants. I also believe that vendors should NOT be drinking on the job.

I don't see anything wrong with the vendor having a drink, they are adults, they know how much they can drink and do their job.

I would imagine a Dj or Band having a drink to get their vibe right.

Our venue charges an inclusive fee for anyone attending, half price for vendors, free for up to 10 children 5 & under, and half price for up to 10 children 10 & under.

Overall, I'll have 3 kids 5 & under, 6 kids who will be 10 & under and I think we're at 5 or 6 vendors for the meal. I'm pretty sure my DJ will drink, not be drunk, but drink.

I cannot speak for everyone, but I can tell you, my partner, Rachel usually becomes a beloved friend to most of our clients. It is the norm for her (and I, by extension) to be invited to attend our clients' weddings as guests, not vendors. We always decline -- for a variety of reasons (chief of which is that we work like mad and are not in any condition to attend a formal event when we're finished).

Alcohol? No way...we never drink on the job, and we have plenty of consults in restaurants. The bride (and her mom...that's the usual dynamic) will order wine or a cocktail, and they will immediately offer us a drink. We need to be on point -- sober and in business mode. We do not drink while on the job -- even if the event manager comes to us and says that the bride wants to offer us a cocktail. Business and pleasure -- the line is drawn in the sand from the first contact.

I am in the "no alcohol for working vendors" camp. I think it's unprofessional if they are not invited guests and I am expecting them to provide a service. Especially the DJ and photographer. I have no problem with them enjoying the food and desserts, but absolutely no alcohol in my book.

I did include the vendors for alcohol, cake and food. When our photographer was finished she asked if she could have a drink and we didn't have a problem with it. Then our DJ had one drink as well and was very thankful for it!

My venue charges the under 21 price for the vendor meals. They eat the same as guests, but don't have the extra for booze tacked on.

My cake will be big enough that they will be able to have some.

Our bar count is listed as number of guests 21 and older and number of guests under 21 plus vendors. They are having the same meal as the guests and there will be enough cake for them to have some if they want it.

I have a question. Do most vendors know they can't drink or eat cake unless told they can? Is this something that should be said to a vendor when giving the final payment that dinner will be provided but they are not included in the alcohol or cake count? Or should the venue be the one who handles it by telling them no?

I think they should be included in the cake count, get a nice meal too, have a chair for when needed, and be able to grab a soda. They're humans!
