Were/Are you worried about your card box being stolen?

Lynnie Pin, on October 25, 2013 at 8:38 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 40

One thing im anxious about at the wedding is the card box. Its just that I trust my close friends a family but i dont trust too well people i dont know as much. ( Guests someone might bring or some of my fiances ppl hes inviting)

I thought about putting the box and screwing it into a pedistol under the table clothe that way if its tried to be lifted they would lift the whole thing and it would fall all over. I worry so much about certain things and not that this is all about gifts and money but i would be pissed if someone just picked up my small card box and walked out. IT HAPPENS.

Has anyone else had any small anxieties over this?

    Nope

we only invited close friends and family, and they're all on the up and up.

I have already asked the venue and they agreed that we can keep the gift table in the reception room instead of in the lobby so it is in plain sight

FH's cousin had her wedding at a restaurant where other randoms were and had cards stolen from her card basket! Our wedding is at a private venue so only guests will be there so I'm not worried about it for us. I'd be more worried if other events were going on at your venue at the same time.

I plan on having our card box up front by our main stage area. It will be part of the decor and have watchful eyes on it all night.

No. Our venue watches over it, they provide the cage and then they lock it in a back room sometime during the reception. And they have a doorman. It's a single function venue, we'll be the only ones in the building. Also, the place used to be a bank so they have lots of secure areas lol

My wedding will have about 3 other events that night so I will have randoms regardless but thankfully the venue has a secure system. When you walk into our ballroom there is a 250 pound side table bolted to the floor with a slit for the cards. Only the manager and owner have the keys to open it to retrieve the cards at the end of the night. No one could get their hand in there and no one can take the table so I'm not worried. I guess in the past they had an issue with cards going missing so they install one in every room. The gifts go on top but my FMIL will be keeping an eye on them and will run them up and lock them in the hotel room during dinner.

No, but I'll have it where someone can keep a close eye on it.

A family friend told me a horror story of a bride and groom decided to have a bird cage card box. Whoever decided to try and be slick took all the money out of every single card, put all the cards back and left. I don't think they ever figured out who did it.

I wasn't worried about it at mine but everyone else & there grandmother was....

    No money was stolen!

I am a worry wart. I worry about this often although there is no need to. Our venue is private, we'll have it for five days, and we're only inviting close family and friends. There are only a handful of people who will actually bring guests that we've only met once before, and I completely trust their judgment of character. Our cage will be perched in a corner that is no where near an open door.

Not really but I'm still not doing something that people can easily reach in to. Our venue is private but I don't know all of the plus 1 guests.

I've just heard too many horror stories so we're going to be really careful.

We had our groomsmen take the card box and the very few gifts we got up to our room shortly after the dance started. Not that we didn't trust people, we just didn't want to have to worry about it at the end of the night.

Yeah more secure cardboxes may help in the situation. It's so crazy though that brides really have to worry about something like this in the first place..

I like the idea about attaching it to the table cloth! And also the idea to have someone run it to the room during dinner.

Everyone told us to be worried, but I have to say I wasn't, and all the money was there when we got it home.

OTOH, five placecard/favors went missing, and that caused some confusion. They were all in alphabetical order, so I guess someone grabbed them or maybe got something on them and was embarrassed, either a little kid or a waitperson. It was no big deal.

I wasn't at all until another Pennsylvania bride posted on here several months ago that her entire card box was stolen. Apparently a man had been going to weddings, walking into venues and swiping cards when no one's watching. Our guest list is closed and our venue has security, but we're giving our room key to our wedding coordinator and she's taking the cardbox directly to our hotel.

Not to make people paranoid, but here's the news stories I mentioned above about the wedding crashing thief, I can't find the original WW poster who mentioned she had her cardbox stolen:

It crossed my mind and I was worried about one cousin. He didn't show and we kept the box where someone could keep an eye on it. We didn't have any issues. I do understand the worry though....I have a friend who just had her whole purse stolen from a wedding.

I've definitely thought about that. Not sure the best way to combat this from happening.

I'll just let one of my watchful relatives check on it throughout the night.

We have hired security (venue requires it due to serving alcohol), as well as our DOC will be around to keep an eye on it for us. We are the only event at the venue, so it should be ok. Only close friends and family invited.
