Weekday Weddings?

Victoria, on August 10, 2019 at 1:47 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 21
Is anyone planning a weekday wedding? A venue we are looking at charges much less if we do a Thursday evening, and we could provide our guests so many more things by saving on the rental costs. Do you think that with a year's notice that most people would show up to a wedding on an unconventional day?

Depends on your guest list and their work schedule and how many of them would have to travel out of town. My husband and I would not be able to come to a Thursday wedding if we weren’t local.

Almost all of my guest list lives within a 30 minutes drive of the venue. I feel like for most our guests work wouldn't be an issue, more for the kids school schedule.

Mine’s on Wednesday. It depends on your guests. Most of mine work on the weekends or they have flexible schedules so they can take time off, our venue is also in the same town as our guests.
People won’t want to drive long distances if they have to work tomorrow.

Oh! Also it depends on the kind of party you want. A party all night long atmosphere probably won’t work for weekday weddings, especially guests with kids. You might have an easier time with a daytime or much earlier evening wedding.

FH and I are having a Friday wedding. Unless it's a holiday, I think six months notice will suffice!

I’m having a Tuesday wedding! We’ve tried giving people plenty of notice so they are able to get time off work if possible.

If I were local, I would come, but I would leave pretty early. So you may not have a very lively reception, sense most people will need to get home to prepare for work/school the next day.

We just got married this past Thursday, 8/8/19! We had 155/280 guests who attended and we were shooting for right around 170 so it was perfect. There were several people who left pretty early due to working the next morning but honestly both DH and I said we wouldn’t change a thing about our day.

I forgot to mention that we got married 4 months after the proposal, so the notice was about 3 months.

I don’t see a weekday as much different than a weekend when it comes to RSVPing. Not everyone works a m-f. Thinking from a guests point of view, I would just limit my alcohol intake so can adult the next day. 😂

I've attended two Thursday weddings. Both of my friends told me that all of their guests were present and one had 220 guests! That being said, I think you'll be fine as long as they have enough notice!

I had a Monday wedding and everyone showed minus 1 person! All stayed for most of the reception as well actually, I was surprised! It really just depends on your crowd. Most of mine are teachers so doing it during the summer when they and the kids were off really helped.

My wedding is on a Monday but most of our guests have the same unconventional schedule that we have so it’s not as much of an issue for us.

Mine is on Thursday this year. Our venue was a lot cheaper for a weekday wedding. I let everyone know that it was a weekday wedding about a year out and I think almost everyone will show up.

Yes. It was actually quite popular back in the day because folklore said weddings on Saturdays were bad luck.
We plan to marry on a weekday.

If you have a Thursday wedding, be prepared for fewer people to RSVP yes and for people to trickle out early. Having it on a Thursday requires people to take two days off of work. I’d go for a Friday or Sunday wedding instead of you still want the discounts but want people to be able to come.

I was in a Thursday wedding two years ago as a bridesmaid. She invited 100, 70 attended. Most were in town so it didn't require a lot of travel. A lot of people left around 8 PM since they had work the next day. She gave around 7 months notice.

I'd go if it's closer to the evening and if it is local enough but I probably wouldn't stay the entire time though

I agree with most of the PPs. If they are close to the venue, then I don't see it being an issue. If it was during the week my FH and I wouldn't be able to go with work demands (he works in NYC). Friday we could get away with.
