Wedding Website Question: did you buy your domain? and did you put it on your save the date?

LukiLauren, on January 13, 2020 at 8:18 AM Posted in Planning 0 10

Hello!

I created our wedding website and am going back and fourth about putting it on our save the date and if I should buy the domain. We aren't having a destination wedding and the out of town guest number is under 20 (all of which are family).

Did you feel it was worth it to buy the domain? We don't plan to use it after the wedding for anything but maybe posting some pictures of the wedding for people to see but.

Thanks in advance for the advice and tips!

We didn't find it necessary to purchase a domain. We included our website on our save the dates and invitations. Sure, it wasn't a necessity, but what could it hurt?

That was exactly my thought. If it's on there and they look, great. If not, no big deal. I didn't find it necessary to purchase but wanted to hear others opinions. Thank you!

My fiance works in web development so it was a must we purchase a unique domain name. I am putting it on our details card with our invites as our RSVPs will be online. We didn't do save the dates.

Nope. Didn’t buy a domain for a website we only needed temporarily. We used Zola for our website and put the web address (and the password, which I almost forgot to add) on our STD. We’ll also add it on our invitations.

I used the WeddingWire website since it integrated with all of my planning info. But I'm not paying for a unique domain. I'm not sending RSVP cards so the responses will all be online. We are doing a semi-destination wedding so nobody is in town.

We didn't buy a domain. We used The Knot and it lets you personalize the URL (www.theknot.com/whateveryouwant). If anyone searched our names on google, it popped up. We had it on the back of our save the dates.

I bought a domain. I'm using it for our wedding info but I'm also doing online RSVP only. I sent the invites using our URL and since it's personal, it's easier for people to enter and then RSVP. But I work in web development, so it is more expected of me to have a personal site.

There's loads of wordpress templates you can load to make your own site, but you can also just buy the domain and set a redirect to your Zola/WeddingWire/TheKnot site. So you can put the custom domain on your invites and use the simplicity of the wedding websites.

We didn't buy our domain, but we did put it on the Save the Dates and invitations. Our guests have appreciated the URL being on the Save the Dates and invitations so they can find our information if needed.

Definitely not worth it to buy. Most people don’t look at it before and won’t look at it after.

I bought our domain, but I'm a software engineer. I also have rather large guest list (over 250 people), with a lot of guests whose first language is not English, so i just wanted something that was easy to remember--[fiance's first name]and[my first name].com.

However, with under 20 guests, I feel a domain purchase wouldn't be worth it.
