Wedding website password - should we??

Sharon, on May 12, 2010 at 10:17 PM Posted in Planning 0 17

We are building our website and I think it should be password protected, but my FH thinks people will lose the Save the Date card w/ it, and not be able to log in. Did you all PW protect yours??? I don't want randoms leaving comments etc.

I was thinking the same thing. I guess if you have some crazy person that is thinking of crashing your wedding, I would PWP it. However, I understand where your FH is coming from too bc ppl are forgetful. I decided not to PWP mine. That way ppl access easily.

How about putting a password on it so that no one can peak at it until you are ready to show it.

then take the pass word off

I have our pw protected because you never know with google searches, and other sites what might pop up. Plus I have personal information on there like: my full name, parents, hs, how we met, our ceremony/reception location. I will be putting our site info on the std and if they forget, people can always call, right? The invitations will also have the website listed as well, so people will get another chance to check it out as well.

You have a good point mahoganieyes. I don't have all that info on mine yet, but when I do, I may reconsider.

Same with mahoganieyes, there's a lot of personal info on it & it's only for our guests (& the WW ladies if we ask for their advice). That's why I have the PW. The other thing is I picked a word that has something to do with the wedding ie, we're getting married in boston thus that's what our PW is, so something everyone should remember.

Yeah I put a password on ours cause we didn't want any nutters crashing and because I'm not comfortable with just anyone knowing my real name or where we are or whatnot.

I agree..I pw protected ours..because honestly if they lose the invite attachment with the info on it they lose the website in general..I just don't trust the internet

Thanks ladies! You make some great points - I don't want our buisness out there to just anyone. FH will have to concede this one Smiley smile

I didn't make ours pw protected only because I'm not really worried about anyone crashing our wedding who isn't going to be there already. The main reason why I didn't is because I have alot of older relatives who aren't very computer savvy and I didn't want to make it any more awkward than it already is. I don't care if someone who doesn't know me knows how we met, I think it's a nice story and I don't mind sharing. There's nothing so personal on there that I mind revealing. And if some idiot writes on my g.b. I'll delete it and move on.

My initial thinking was exactly like teexoxo's but there is 1 certain person that is most definitely NOT welcome, my mom's ex-husband (my bio-father). He's contacted us several times after we've specifically said to leave us alone. The other reason, FH doesn't want people to be able to google him & bam, there's everything.

Mariel that's a very valid point. And I am in the same boat with my bio-father. I don't want him to know about it or try to contact me in any way but we also don't have our phone numbers listed so I don't feel quite so unsure. I guess if we needed to pw protect ours we would probably do it too. Depends on each individual situation.

If you are TRULY worried about putting that type of information out there (because you have people that might harm you) then don't even do a website. The password wouldn't keep a half-brained hack from getting the information anyway...
