Wedding Transportation??

Heather, on August 31, 2022 at 2:21 PM Posted in Planning 1 3

I am getting married next year on a Friday night in Miami at a relatively remote venue (Homestead area). The Venue does not have onsite accommodation so we have blocked rooms at a hotel 15 minutes from the venue. Because of the remoteness of the venue, we are concerned that our guests will not be able to get an Uber back to the hotel at 2AM after the wedding. We want to provide transportation (at least from the venue to the hotel at the end of the night) but ideally both ways so we can ensure guests are on time for the ceremony. We do not want to spend a fortune on this unplanned expense - but I have received quotes for $1000+.

My FH is from the UK so he thinks the novelty of a school bus transporting guests would be cool. i am American and I think this would be very awkward and tacky.

What's the most cost effective way to transport my guests without resorting to a school bus??

If the expense is not in your budget, and people can park at your venue for your event, then you do not have to provide transportation (though it is a nice gesture if you have the space in the budget). People regularly go to events where there are alcohol and can moderate their intake accordingly. Though I would include (on your website or word of mouth) that people may not be able to get an Uber at the end of the event, should you decide transportation is out of your budget.

Another thing to think about is, if you do a shuttle of some sort, does that mean people cannot leave early? While I know you want people to stay for the whole event, 2AM is LATE for some people (me included); plus, what if someone becomes ill (headache, whatever - nothing serious) and would like to leave? Just some food for thought.

I agree with you on the school bus - and my school system didn't have bussing.

Most of our friends have done school buses for their transportation and it's been fine. No one has complained and its been a great way to ensure everyone gets to party safely. I guess this will depend on the area but in my area the next thing would be renting a party or coach bus but that would easily be $1,000+.

We have a similar situation, we contacted a local bus company in that area and they also had charter buses available for a slight price increase. We booked one bus as a shuttle, it has 2 trips before the ceremony, sits up to 55 people, and then it has i think like 4-5 trips starting about an hour after dinner, I think it's like every half hour or 45 minutes. It ended up being about 1500 for the two times (versus only having them towards the end of the reception).
