Wedding Tent Alternatives

erika, on July 5, 2017 at 9:14 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 7

I'm having an outdoor wedding in September and need to figure out a tent solution.

The venue is my brothers house and the reception area is on a 40x100ft cement slab. We are posting up wooden beams around the perimeter where we're stinging lights but since it's outside I have to have a tent option for rain but also for direct sunlight (reception is from 4:30-9pm).

Of course I can get a tent through my rental vendor but it's $2000. Has anyone done a DIY tent of some sort that has worked? Chances of rain are low for my location/time of year but the sun might be an issue. Would love any thoughts!

I assume $2k includes set up and tear down right? I'd hire the pros.

The amount of material that needs to be strong enough and supported will take a ton of time, strength and money without any guarantee it will work.

Buying it and having the risk of having a missing piece and then trying to sell it afterwards would make me just want to rent it. I don't think there is a way around it. Try youtube for some hacks but I doubt you'll find anything.

Get a bunch of those pop-up beach huts and give everyone a sun hat and a personal fan. Tres elegant.

    (I'm on team pros.)

Hire a pro... this is not something you want to skimp on.

If it fits in your budget hire the pros. You have your guests to think about and throwing up some cheap fabric for DIY cover won't protect them from the sun and rain like a tent will.

I bought a tent and found 2 other brides to share it with because it was too expensive for me alone. At a wedding someone used old parachutes for sun protection that looked nice (but does not protect from rain).
