I'm Greek Orthodox. My sister is getting married May 2014 and I'm getting married September 2014 (the same year.) This is really upseting me because I can be superstitious at times but this superstition I never heard of! Is this true? Had anyone heard of that superstition or know 2 sisters that got married within the same year and they are doing great now? i dont want to have my wedding in 2015. Smiley sad

I know two sisters and a brother who all got married within the same year. ALL are still happily married, and that was back in 2009. I'd say you're safe. Smiley winking

Historically speaking, many superstitions have come about simply to make life easier. In an age when the bride's parents were responsible for both paying for a wedding AND the dowry, of course it was bad luck--FOR THEM--to have to do it twice in one year! Smiley winking

Hahahah what?! I have never heard this crap before. If so, me and my sister are cursed. I just got married, shes in October. Technically my other sister is married with in the same year as us, next Feb. Tell her to keep her superstitions to herself!

It's like telling a bride that it is good luck to have rain on your wedding day. I believe it is a superstition from England where it rains a lot -- gotta console the bride somehow!

I wouldn't say it's bad luck, but I would say it's probably more of a financial burden on family having to attend and spend money on two big events in the same year. My aunt (who is a nun) had her golden jubilee this month. Being a nun for 50 years is obviously a big event, and most of the family was in attendance. Naturally, some of the family from out of state told me they wouldn't be able to attend the wedding this August.

I think you'll be fine! Smiley laugh

OMG yes! I know four pairs of sisters that got married the same year and they are all divorced. Change your date for sure. It has to be true.

I don't think it is bad luck I just think they started that bc it is expensive to pay for 2 weddings in a year. I actually had to re-read your post bc I thought maybe u were my sister lol...but she is a couple months after u. Greeks have too many superstitious sayings, we can't follow or worry all of them...otherwise we'd freak out over everything like our Yiayias do lol

Me and my sister are the 2nd generation to have personal experience on this subject matter. My mom and her sister had a double wedding. My mom become a widow and her older sister is still married until now. My sister and I got married in the same year only 3 months apart. I'm divorced and my older sister is still married. So superstition or not but that is our personal experience. 2x it happen to us in different generationds therefore I believe. I'm about to get married for the 2nd. Time this March. I told my younger sister to not get engage or get married this year. Better be safe than sorry.
