Wedding Superstitions - Is it bad luck for 2 sisters to get married the same year?

Antoinette, on June 11, 2013 at 12:47 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 1 34

I'm Greek Orthodox. My sister is getting married May 2014 and I'm getting married September 2014 (the same year.) My mom's friend told my mom that me and my sister should not get married the same year because it is bad luck. This is really upseting me because I can be superstitious at times but this superstition I never heard of! Is this true? Had anyone heard of that superstition or know 2 sisters that got married within the same year and they are doing great now? i dont want to have my wedding in 2015. Smiley sad

My sister and I got married the same year, 3 months apart. I divorced my ex, but she's still happily married. I guess that might be bad luck for me, but I met my FH who's world's beyond the person my ex is.

    I wouldn't change my date.

    Of course it's not true...

I believe the NY Times had a family of 4 siblings who all got married the same year and the 5th got an Emmy LOL.

I've never heard of anything like that, but then again 1 - I'm not superstitious so I wouldn't care and 2 I'm not Greek Orthodox

I'm kinda reminded of The Fiddler on the Roof :

    A blessing on your head

    (Mazel Tov, Mazel Tov)

    To see a daughter wed

    (Mazel Tov, Mazel Tov)

    And such a son-in-law

    Like no-one ever saw

    The tailor Motel Camzoil

I say the more the merrier unless it's your parents fronting for both girls.... Ouch on the wallets.

My sister and I almost got married in the same year (May 2013 and Sept 2013). However, we each wanted our own attention from family and felt that squeezing them in the same year was just too much on everyone. Luckily she decided to buy a house first and moved her wedding to summer 2014 so we each will have a good number of months leading up for showers/ planning/etc and not feel like it was all squished together. Easier on us and our family. I've never heard of the supserstition, but I will say its a breath of fresh air to not have to have two major family events within 4 months of each other.
