wedding songs: question!

TheFutureMrsLind, on April 2, 2011 at 5:48 PM Posted in Planning 0 27

What songs are all of you having as your 'first dance' song? And what song are you having the wedding party walk down to? What song are you walking down to? I'm having a hard time deciding all of these things! lol I already know what song I want my father-daughter dance to. It's a song that my dad recorded, (he's a famous singer in Iceland.) It's a lullaby he used to sing to me and my sister when we were little. Let me know! Give me ideas! I know that this site has that whole section on assorted wedding songs that are popular, but I just want to know what women are actually picking, not just what a website tells me! haha

My husband and I picked our favorite band and chose a bunch of their songs for key moments. I walked down the aisle to the song my DH wrote for me when we had been dating about 4 months. Just think of songs that have a big impact on you too. Like the one for your dad, very sentimental.

Im sure several ladies will chime in- but also just search the forums. There have been tons of threads about people's songs (ceremony, first dance etc) I have barely started thinking about it!

    Hello Emily,

your First Dance should be a reflection of you and your husband's feelings. Some couples choose a song that reminds them of where we met, or how they feel about each other. Some couples choose based on style of music, or a favorite artist. It's really a very personal decision.

I always like to promote the "new" songs that people haven't done to death... because I think it makes the wedding more unique. With that in mind, I will offer you a couple of suggestions:

Jason Mraz & Colbie Caillat - Lucky

    Colbie Caillat - I Do

BeBe & CeCe Winans - Cindy's Song (I Found Love)

    Uncle Kracker - Smile

Older, traditional with a country feel:

    Lonestar - Amazed

Shania Twain & Brian White - From This Moment

    More traditional, rock-feeling

    Eric Clapton - Wonderful Tonight

    Journey - Faithfully

    Standards:

    Etta James - At Last

Frank Sinatra/Michael Buble - The Way You Look Tonight

I think it's something very personal, I'm sure each one of us has chosen the songs that have a real sentimental value like something that reminds you of a special moment. Pick something with meaning not just pretty words

I'm having the bridal party walk down to the Feather Theme from Forrest Gump (love that song!). My song is going to be a surprise from my piano teacher.

First dance will be Can't Help Falling in Love by Elvis.

We've only started thinking about this. I asked him what he thought, and he said he was going to have to give it a lot of thought. So while he's been doing that, I have also, and I think my fave to bring back to him is either "Nothing Can Change This Love" or "Glory Of Love", both by Otis Redding.

I'm planning to walk down to "The Wedding Song". Strangely, I don't care for the song lol, though not so much an issue when its just an instrumental. I chose it because my FH's father was planning to sing at our wedding/reception, and while I wanted him to sing "Annie's Song" - he was determined he was singing "The Wedding Song." We had many a playful disagreement about the song choice. Sadly, he passed away last August, and he was so special to me, and will be sorely sorely missed...I chose to honor him and make a part of the wedding by having my daughter's cello instructor play it while she walks me down the aisle. So, you see, under normal circumstances I would not have chosen this song - perhaps there is a reason or two for a song choice or two that you could draw from Smiley smile

Well thanks all of you. I am sure that we will chose songs that are meaningful to us. I just wanted to get my brain working because there are SO many options! lol My fiance and I are both huge lovers of music and have a whole ton of songs that are meaningful to us. ALso, there are a few songs that we love to death that are meaningful to us, that just won't work right for any of the ''wedding'' categories.

for example, or song is ''home'' by edward sharpe and the magnetic zeroes lol

another is ''green eyes'' by coldplay, which might work for the first dance or me walking down the aisle. i was also thinking of just going with the bridal chorus for that. and also, i do really love ''lucky'' with jason mraz and colbie callat...

We're using "Lucky" too - it's our recessional song. Smiley smile I'm walking down to the piano solo by Victor in "The Corpse Bride", but haven't decided what the girls are walking to. Our first dance is "In My Life" by the Beatles, and the last dance of the night is the Hawaiian version of Jack Johnson's "Better Together." I love all everyone's songs - there are so many beautiful, special ones to choose from!

I found all my music at www.weddingmusiccentral.com. My bridal party is walking down to "Friends Are Quiet Angels". It's a song that's a tribute to friendship. I'm walking down to "Here She Comes", a brand new pop song for the bride's entrance. I'm really excited about that. I'm also playing a song for my mom at the reception to honor her called "To Be a Woman" and I'm dancing with my dad to "You're My Hero". Our last dance will be "Thank You" dedicated to all our friends and family. You can here them all at www.weddingmusiccentral.com.

!!That Home song is one of my faves.Me and FH travel alot and have been everywhere together..so it makes me think of him. If it has meaning to you..maybe you could use it somehow.but im biased.such a cute song.awesome that you guys love it too! How is the music being "performed" or "played" for the ceremony music?Maybe someone could do another version of it thats more wedding friendly or something.Either live..or recorded.

I was thinking of using Hiromi Uehara's "place to be" for the ceremony music (maybe..somehow..idk.lol).She is an awesome japanese piano player and that song is epic..the live you tube video gets ya.

Our first dance is "thats how strong my love is" by otis redding.totally our song.

Picking out this music is actually kind of difficult.Just because its important to ya!

Just go with whatever has meaning to you guys.Something that makes ya feel.Good luck girl!

Our first song is Differences by Ginuwine. My fiancee comes from the street life Myself another life. This song reflects how we changed each others lifes....

Well how I changed his moreso lol

    Oh, hey...

    Oh, yeah, oh, yeah

    To you

    Mmm...mmm...mmm...

    Oh, yeah, babe

    My whole life has changed

Since you came in, I knew back then

    You were that special one

I'm so in love, so deep in love

    You make my love complete

You are so sweet, no one competes

Glad you came into my life

You blind me with your love, with you I have no sight

Girl, you open me, I'm wide open

And I'm doing things I never do

But I feel so good, I feel so good

Why it takes so long for me finding you

This is my story and I'm telling you

    It's not fiction, it's surely a fact

Without you right here having my back

I really don't know just where I'd be at

My whole life has changed (My whole life has changed)

Since you came in, I knew back then (Ooh...oh...)

You were that special one (You were that)

We did "Can't Take My Eyes Off of You" by Frankie Valli. It's upbeat, so we couldn't just do the typical "stand and sway" that can be a bit of a room-killer, Since we're awful dancers, we played it for laughs (lots of silly dancing, like 'land shark' and so forth), and everyone sang along for the chorus. It's one of my favorite memories from the day.
