Wedding savings

Rachael, on August 24, 2017 at 11:04 PM Posted in Planning 1 35

How is everyone else saving for their wedding? I thought it was a good idea for FH and I to have a separate savings account together just for our wedding fund. We both can add to it every month to save up. He doesn't like this idea. How is everyone else saving with their FH?

I actually wanted to open a joint bank account to save for our wedding too. It just seems easier. However, we haven't gotten around to doing that yet (we've only been engaged for four months) so I just have a mason jar with some cash in it for right now. We're not getting married for three years but it's good to start somewhere.

We started a joint account early on in dating, I know risky. Made the most sense and clearly it's paid off, haha. We put in the same amount from our paychecks to the joint and ut all goes to wedding or any other expenditures.

We're using a joint credit card and paying it off monthly at a fixed amount -- his a little higher than mine because of discrepancies in expenses and incomes.

My FH is cash only so he gives me cash every paycheck for his portion of house expenses and the wedding account, which I manage. We're putting set amounts in every two weeks plus tax returns, bonuses, etc.

We opened both joint savings and checking accounts. The savings account is for general savings (emergencies, future down payment) and the checking account is for the wedding. The idea is to use these as our primary accounts after the wedding.

FH wasn't super proactive about this when we first got engaged, but once his parents wrote their contribution check in my name I was able to drag him to the bank Smiley smile

TLDR; yes we opened joint accounts and used our budget to set up automatic bi-weekly transfers.

Rachael we did what you did! Opened a joint checking account that we had money auto transferred into. I used the debit card from that account to pay for wedding things. Anything leftover will turn into the honeymoon fund.

We opened a joint savings account about a year and a half into dating. We both put in a set amount each month and any extra after bills. It has really been a life saver as we have saved a ton since then!

We opened up a savings account specifically for the wedding expenses and each put in a set amount for each paycheck we receive.

We will be opening a joint account for the wedding. It will make things easier knowing anything wedding related is coming from only one account.

We opened a joint account for wedding savings... we contribute differently though because of differences in income

We bought a house together (but in my name because my credit and debt ratio were better) a year ago and since then all bills have been in my name and he transfers the sum of his half to my account each month. A few months before we became officially engaged we started a wedding savings account. I add 200 to what he owes me each month and then move 400 from checking to wedding savings account. We paid for our venue in whole last month and our savings account is now down pretty low but we have a year to build it back up.

We opened a high yield joint savings account and put money into there. Anything that was a gift to us for our engagement and then we each add a little every month. On top of that any "found money" gets put in there too. Like any refunds or overtime from work.

We're paying for things as we go. I've started putting money into a savings for the tips to our vendors.

We have separate bank accounts but my savings account is for the wedding and his for emergencies. We put whatever extra we have in my savings and then pay wedding expenses from there. Smiley smile

Thank you all for letting me know. I am going to stick to my plan of savings. FH is starting to agree with me that it's not a bad idea. I think knowing other couples are doing the same thing helped. Smiley smile

I just recently added FH to my bank account. We've been together almost 8 years. We're putting all out money into the account and then pulling money into the savings for the wedding each month.

We opened a joint checking account after we got engaged. We lived together for over a year at that point and had been together for 2.5 years. I will say opening a joint checking account was more scary/nerve wracking and felt more real in regards to our future together than us buying a house or getting engaged haha. After the wedding the account will turn into our boat fund Smiley smile we both put $400/month each into the account, sometimes more if we can spare some money. He gets a yearly bonus and placed part of that in there (rest went to pay off his credit card), our tax returns and my x-mas bonus will go into the account as well. FH is getting a significant raise in October so we are thinking he may contribute more each month just to make sure we have more than enough saved up to pay everything off by march 20 (we are doing a DW so we have a due date for everything to be paid in full one month before the wedding date). Obviously the things we need to buy here (in the US) will be bought from that account too.
