Wedding rings from the same place?

Gen, on August 10, 2018 at 11:42 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 38
We got my engagement ring from Jared, so I kept thinking we’d just go to the same place and get our wedding bands from there too, especially since I have to go in every 6 months to get the ER cleaned and I have a warranty on it.

The only issue is now, I’m realizing that Jared’s wedding bands are much more expensive than other places I’ve seen, and FH and I both plan to just get plain, white gold bands so it’s not like we need anything fancy. But since I have to go to Jared anyway every 6 months to get the ER cleaned, i feel like it’d be much easier to just have my wedding band from the same place so I could deal with getting that cleaned too, and possible repairs or resizing or whatever all at the same place.

Then we were thinking about just getting my band from Jared to make my life easier, and getting FH’s band somewhere less expensive. But now I feel weird about getting our wedding bands from different places from each other? Idk why, it probably doesn’t matter but I just wanted to see what other people have done.

Did you get your wedding band and engagement ring at the same place? Did it negatively affect you if you got them in different places? And did you purchase your and your FS’s bands at the same place as each other?

Our rings will all be from different places and I'm not worried about it, lol!

FH custom designed my engagement ring on Blue Nile, and he bought my wedding band from Helzberg diamonds because I wanted to see rings in person and they were very affordable for what I wanted.

FH wedding band is coming from Zales. He also wanted a plain gold band and they weren't too expensive there.

Are you wearing your wedding band on the same hand as your ER? I feel like this may be a dumb question lol but would the metals still look the same if they are from a different place?

FH got my engagement ring from Kay and we ended up getting his and my wedding bands from Kay as well. We have to get our rings inspected every 6 months to keep the lifetime warranty.

I got my e-ring and wedding ring from the same place. My e-ring is Verragio and from diamonds direct, and I wanted the matching wedding ring. The wedding ring was probably too expensive, but it has a lot of diamonds on it and it was made to match my e-ring. I think it will be very easy to have them from the same place, especially since mine is white gold and will need to get dipped every once in a while.

Not worried at all about FH's ring. In fact, we haven't even gotten his yet lol. He doesn't think he will wear his ring much since he can't wear it at work. He has even tossed around the idea of making it from a quarter. I don't really care about his ring as long as he has something for me to use at the ceremony.

Yes? 14K yellow gold is 14K yellow gold no matter where you buy it, lol.

Usually, metals only look different if you're pairing 10K with 14K or 18K, the colors can look different because the metals are different. Some people still pair and mix metals and you can't even tell a difference half of the time.

Yeah that's the same for my ER too. I feel like since I have to go in to get my engagement ring inspected every 6 months anyway it would be so much easier to get my wedding band from the same place and just do it all at once but idk

FH got my ER from Kay (because my middle name is Kay and i once mentioned to him that i always thought it would be cute, and then he actually remembered that to my surprise, how cute) and i asked when we were getting it resized if there was a matching band with the set (its such an odd shape and i know they usually custom make them as sets) and she said that any band would go with it... Um, i don't think so. I have not started shopping for bands yet, but it will be whatever fits, and whatever is cheapest.

I like to keep things simple, but it's really your preference. Don't limit yourself if you can't find a ring you like at Kay.

Lol yeah that makes sense, I suppose it wouldn't matter as long as I made sure to get the same type of metal

My engagement ring is from a local jewelry store, my fiance's wedding ring will be from a store off Etsy, and my wedding ring will be from a different store on Etsy. When I take in my engagement ring to get cleaned, I'll just take both our wedding rings and pay for them to be cleaned since it isn't that much!

What do you mean by "dipped?" my ring is white gold and I've never heard of this...

my FH is a steamfitter so we have joked about making him a ring out of copper pipe similar to your FH's quarter idea lol!

Its such a fun middle name to have! When people ask "whats your middle name" and you say "guess" they guess a lot of things, but never Kay! and then when you say Kay, they think you mean the letter K! Its so funny!

I'm not worried about not being able to find one I like, since I plan to just get a plain white gold band. My engagement ring is 3 stones with a halo so it's far from simple, so I wanted to get a very simple wedding band or I felt like it would either look like too much, or would overshadow the engagement ring. I'm just concerned because from what it looks like, the plain bands from Jared cost like double as much as a nearly identical plain band from other stores I've looked at. Ugh

I know! Both my grandmothers had Kay as their middle name so I plan on giving the same middle name to my daughter (if I have one).

Yeah you would definitely need to get a very specific type of band to match that lol, unless you were to wear them on opposite hands.

    Gorgeous ring btw!

My ER was passed down from FH's step mom and FH's dad can't remember where he got it so we technically have 0 clue where he bought the ring. When we went to get it appraised at the jewelry store we usually go to, and will be getting our wedding bands from (Kesslers), they couldn't find it in their system so we don't think that he got it from there.

I wouldn't worry about it looking off. As long as you get the same metal as your ER, it should look cohesive! If you have a store in mind, and are concerned, then I would go there and try on a wedding band (any style) the same metal as your ER to give yourself some peace of mind!

I’m not sure exactly the process it goes through so maybe dipped isn’t the right word. But white gold is really just yellow gold that has other metals added to it (nickel maybe) to make it white. But through washing your hands, sweating etc the white gold will get warmer and they can dip it or something to make it white again. I haven’t done mine since last September and it desperately needs it but I’m waiting until right before the wedding. You can see it in this photo of my e ring next to my brand new wedding rings. E ring on top.

Our wedding rings are from different online shops, and a completely different shop from my e-ring. We had shopped for wedding bands at the local jeweler where H bought my engagement ring, but it turned out to be a lot more expensive than we anticipated there. So, I started looking online.

H got a simple white gold band, and I got a white gold band with small diamonds and sapphires that matches my antique platinum e-ring surprisingly well. It was all a lot cheaper than if we bought them at the jeweler, and I think they still are pretty nice. They were less than $400 combined.

I did get mine from the same place, however, that is because my E-ring was custom, so my band had to be custom made to fit flush against it.
