Wedding Registry & Tiny House

Jess & Dallas, on September 8, 2016 at 11:27 PM Posted in Planning 0 28

Do any brides already live with your FHs? My fiancé and I have been living together since we started dating in 2013. I'm still not sure if we want to create a wedding registry or not due to our tiny home. Any advice as to if I should create a small registry although we really don't need anything besides money for a bigger home in the future?

Is there anything you have wanted but haven't bought because it's too expensive for you to comprehend buying it for yourself? My DF and I have been dating for almost 4 years and living together for 2.5 - the only thing we don't have that I've wanted is a KitchenAid stand mixer. Other than that we're setting up a registry for our honeymoon so people can help us pay for a trip of a lifetime. Smiley smile

Lots of couples are currently living together! Make a small registry; I'm sure you have things you can upgrade. People will get the hint that you want cash.

If you do make one, just a handful of things like new towels, maybe some higher quality appliances like a juicer or vitamix. DO NOT ASK FOR CASH. We were in a similar situation and chose not to make a registry and everyone except one person gave us cash.

Do not make a honey fund like Megan suggested.

Don't follow Megan's advice regarding a honeymoon fund. Please do a search on this board for honey funds for more information. Just make a small registry, most people will just give cheques. Congrats!

There was a good post about this earlier today. A registry is a nice way to upgrade things. Nicer sheets, towels, coffee maker, etc. Keep it small, people will get that you would prefer cash.

    Towel warmer.

But yes, a small registry, or no registry at all, sends the message of cash. I spent half an hour two weeks ago explaining to fh that his friend's tiny registry meant cash preferred (or legitimately "we just want you there!"). Most adults gift cash so you don't even need a tacky honey fund to receive it!

Megan, why do you think people should pay for your honeymoon? If you claim to already have everything, why don't you save up and pay for it yourself? You're over a year out. Plenty of time.

OP, I'm just curious, is this a TINY house, as in 400 square feet, or is it just a smaller house?

@weddingbelle my house is legit 455 sq ft. We get cramped sometimes.

@mrssasswood I would not have the room to be honest for that even new appliances that some one else suggested. Our appliances are still good.

@Meganw not really. I have a kitchen aid stand mixer my father bought me for Christmas a few years back and I should use it more but it's harder due to our small house

I would make a small registry for some upgrades, NO honey fund like megan suggested because it's so tacky! You can also register for hobby items, camera etc. If you have a small registry people mostly get the point to just give cash

I would definitely suggest upgrades/replacements for things you already have. Towels, a new duvet, throw pillows and blankets, and think of anything that you find yourself saying you wish you had at home. My friends who had registries said in the end they got mostly cash anyway and used the completion discount on things they really wanted/needed.

If you have an actual Tiny House that definitely changes the advice! I would say keep the registry small and stick to upgrades (towels, linens), and hobby items.

If you have no room and just want money, just make a tiny registry for the things you really want. Your guests should take the hint that they can just gift money.

No need to ask for money.

I would recommend a small registry and add upgrades to things you have! My FH already has a lot of things for a house but I'm basically having him upgrade everything!

Since you are living in a tiny house I wouldn't create a registry at all. People will get the hint and give you cash. DO NOT LISTEN TO MEGAN.
