Wedding Registry: Pay $30 myself, or have guests pay credit card tax?

Private User, on January 31, 2015 at 11:43 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6

I'm looking into alternative registries like Zola and Thankful. Mainly because they have really friendly user interfaces and they will let me register whatever I want from around the internet. Zola is free, but it charges guests a tax whenever they pay with credit card--and honestly, everyone will be paying with a credit card. Thankful has a one time fee of $30, but they don't swindle money from my guests. I'm on a serious budget with this wedding, but it seems tacky to me to have my guest pay extra fees when they are buying me gifts. What do you guys think? Bed Bath and Beyond and Target aren't really options for me. Do I pay a fee myself? Or let my guests pay a tax to my registry? Thanks!

If you want to use the website for your registry, as a courtesy to your guests, pay any fees the website requires. Your guests should have not have pay this when Target and BBB are free, but you choose to use Zola or Thankful.

Personally? Pay the fee yourself. Your guests will appreciate the thought.

I believe Amazon also has a registry option where you can quickly add off site items (chrome has an extension for this) - so that may be worth a look?

I would just pay the $30, it is a low cost. I would feel uncomfortable making my guests pay an extra fee.

Can you register on Amazon? They don't charge anything that I am aware of.

Pay the fee yourself if you want to use one of them. But why not use Amazon's universal registry? It's free, and you can add items from any online store.

Thanks for the input! I'm going to look into Amazon's registry a little more. It seems to check out! Thank you ladies!
