Wedding Planners

Tiffany, on July 10, 2019 at 2:42 PM Posted in Planning 0 11

We are meeting with a wedding planner that a close friend referred us to on the 20th. I don't even know if I want to use a planner yet or not but thought I'd at least meet with one and see how I felt. Can anyone tell me about a time you met with a planner and knew you wanted to use them and a time you thought about using one and met with some but decided not to use one? Also, I want to come up with a list of questions that I should ask her. Any questions? Thanks!

I had a phone conversation with a month of coordinator. I had already nailed down all of our vendors and put together my day of timeline. She asked me about the details of our wedding and after asking about our budget she told me that her starting rate was $1,400! I was shocked this was $900 more than our budget. She said she would send me a quote with the list of items she would assist with and I could remove items that I didn't need help with. Her quote was almost $2,000! It was $1,500 more than my budget!! I removed a bunch of items I didn't need and her price only came down to $1,350. Uh...no thank you. I can pay someone else $50 to set out favors.

I planned our entire wedding myself, so I didn't want/need a planner. BUT I did want a day of coordinator, so I didn't have to worry about any logistics on the actual day. I met with one, she offered a month of service, and gave me a quote of $475. I told her I didn't need all of that, and that was above what I was willing to spend. All I needed was for her to "run the show" on the actual day, according to the plans / schedule I made. She agreed, and came down on price to $275. I am glad I hired her. It was so nice not having to worry about anything on the actual wedding day.

Thankfully our venue comes with a day of coordinator. I'm thinking about a wedding planner for the rest because I feel so overwhelmed with picking vendors. I really don't know what I'm supposed to be asking and how I know if they're a fit for us. I guess I just want someone to direct me and help me find vendors in our budget.

I didn’t think I was going to want a planner because I am so type A control freak. Our venue required us to have one and I thought maybe it would help ease some stress day of the wedding. Since our ceremony and rehearsal will be taking place in the same space, we also needed someone to “flip” the space. I met with one and had a phone meeting with another. Because I had all the big stuff under control, we decided to hire one only for day of services. She will oversee the wedding day by keeping the timeline, serving as the contact for vendors, setting up, etc. The coordinator we hired was recommended by our photographer and since they’ve worked together before she gave me a discount.
I think the main thing is to make sure you go with someone (if you decide to go with a coordinator) that understands your needs as a bride and is willing to work with your personality.

I had a full service wedding planner and she was amazing. But if you’re having a wedding with a lower budget I would look into just a day of coordinator.

If it is within your means to do so, and it will help you have a smooth planning process, then by all means meet with a planner and consider it. I will suggest too though, Wedding Wire's vendor search really helped me do exactly what you just described.

I had a phone conversation with one. She was nice. But honestly, I couldn't justify the cost to myself.
The things that she would help with were nice, but I felt like I could hire 4 personal assistants to do more for less money.

For my wedding I used a course that coaches bride how to plan their own wedding from beginning to end. To be honest (I only bought it because it was a lot cheaper than hiring a wedding planner and it is virtual so I don't have to spend time meeting up with the planner). Got the coaching and it was the best thing ever. I can give you the details if you are interested. Seriously recommend
