Wedding Planner?

Kaitlyn, on July 30, 2019 at 11:09 AM Posted in Planning 0 20

FMIL is suggesting we find a planner so we don't have to worry about finding things on our own, but I kind of like doing things myself? I can definitely see how it would be less stressful, but it's not something I could see spending money on. I'm thinking I want a DOC though, so myself, FMIL, my dad, MOH and BMs don't have to worry about things going smoothly the day-of.

Did you get a planner?

We just hired a DOC so that we could be stress free the day of the wedding.

Finding things on your own isn't stressful. Use WW's vendor search and compare prices & reviews of vendors in your area. Super easy. So IMO, a wedding planner is not necessary. BUT a DOC is definitely worth it, because you don't want to be the one doing everything on your actual day. You plan the wedding you want, then let the DOC take over on the day and make sure everything goes to your plan.

Yes, I'm enjoying doing planning things myself, so I'm not interested in a full planner. I am looking for a DOC, just so my family and friends don't have to do anything on the day of. Even if I'd wanted a full planner, there's no way I could afford one. I've been seeing quotes anywhere from $5000 to $15,000 for that service. That's my entire wedding budget! Nope. I'd much rather spend that money on things I really want, like great food, excellent photography, and a fun DJ.

I didnt think it was necessary to have a full planner. We hired a DOC because our venues in house ones were all over the place (went through 3 before the wedding date!) It was nice to have the peace of mind on that day.

That's a matter of opinion. The aspect that makes it hard is our venue is a county nature center and the vendors have to be vetted, approved, and registered with the county if they aren't already. So using WW search, I'd have to cross-reference with the list we have (15 pages), or then have to have a vendor not on the list go through everything to get approved with the county. That's really the only reason I would want to use a planner, but the expense is something I'm not sure I'd pay.

That's my biggest thing, is I don't know I'd want to spend the money on it. I get that they do it for a living, but I think I'm in the same boat as you and I'd rather spend the money on other things. Plus there's a lot that my MOH wants to DIY, and I think a DOC would be good to have the day of so we don't have to worry about getting things set up and taken down.

Unless my FMIL wants to get the planner herself, I don't think we'll use one.

We got a Month Of Coordinator. She does the normal DOC stuff, but instead of taking over right before the wedding, we hand the reigns over to her about 3 months out. We've had monthly calls with her to go over what we should be doing planning-wise and she's helped along the way with recommendations, and now that we're getting closer to the wedding, she'll be the one making confirmation calls and double checking we make our payments on time. It's kind of an in-between, and she's been a ton of help.

I planned things myself. Which is a stressor all its own. We do have a DOC and he's amazing. Everytime we get to meet with him I can physically feel the pressure going away. So I highly suggest getting a DOC.

I got a day of coordinator, but she has been helping me since 7 months out, so technically yes. We meet at least once a month to go over what has been accomplished and what needs to be done in the next month. She has been really helpful, and as the day gets closer (I am 3 months out from my wedding day), she will be the go-to person for all the vendors, which will save me a good amount of stress

I had a planner. But I’m the kind of person that wanted someone else to pick out things like flowers and place settings. It was also so nice to not have to contact or communicate with vendors but a planner was not cheap.

I didn't do a wedding planner but sometimes I wish I had. I think each predicament is different. in my case we are doing a destination wedding so it has been difficult getting in touch with everyone in timely manners so a wedding planner would have handled that stress and I could have still done all the DIY I liked. I do wish I had a DOC and that would be my only bit of advice here. If you think it will be helpful do it. Its no longer in our budget or else I would get one. We have so many vendors showing up at different times and we only get the venue 4 hours before I walk down the aisle so it will be all hands on deck to get stuff together and set up so that stresses me out.

We didn't do a wedding planner. Our venue has a DOC who has been helping us with the planning all along. We didn't really have too much trouble finding and hiring vendors on our own so paying a planner would have been a waste of money in my eyes.

Our venue includes a Wedding Planner and DOC. We're still a little over a year out, but she has reached out to us and answered the few questions we did have. I love planning things myself, but it is nice to have her there to answer questions, bounce ideas off of, make sure things are staying on track/getting done, and remembering all the fine details/little things that can easily be forgotten. Not sure if I would have gotten one had it not been included, but I would have definitely gotten a DOC.

At first we didn’t and we quickly got in over our heads. We have a planner now and I’m thrilled she does so much. My fiancé and I both have very intense careers which demand our time, energy, and brainpower... not leaving much for planning a big wedding! She’s been super helpful and I still have to do a ton of stuff. If you’re worried about letting go of things.. there is still plenty to do even with a planner!

I'm doing all the planning myself! It, honestly, hasn't really been stressful at all. I've LOVED wedding planning! I, also, plan a lot of events so this kind of thing is second nature to me. I am having my aunt as my DOC, though. She's a full-time event planner so she'll be great at it!

We hired a planner who will also be our DOC. However, I have still been super involved in our planning because I tend to be very OCD. I think you could probably do without a planner, but a DOC is pretty important. They basically they make sure your day runs seamless so you don't have to stress.
