Wedding Planner, yay or nay?

Lauren, on November 3, 2019 at 11:01 PM Posted in Planning 0 19
I am just curious about those that had hired a Wedding Planner, was it worth it? What was your experience?

Those that didn’t have one, do you wish you had one? What was your biggest wish for having one after the fact?

Just trying to figure out if I need to plan to get one or not. I have tons of support from family and will have an event planner the day of at the reception venue, so I am not sure if I will need one.

Thanks for your help!

I don't have one and honestly i don't even wish for one, i think it just depends if u wanna do all of the planning by yourself or want an extra hand , but honestly we feel like we don't even need it since also we got the support of our families, and we are doing the planning while we have a glass of wine and try not to check too much pinterest so we don't get overwhelmed, and with that money that would've been for the planner we will just get more booze or smth that we really want Smiley smile

We hired a planner and so so glad we did. We are planning a destination wedding so it is super helpful to have them since they are an expert in the area. And my FH and I think it’s absolutely worth the money to not be stressed and be relaxed and happy on our wedding day!

We didn't hire a planner and I don't regret it at all. I have a type A personality and tend to be a bit of a control freak. There's no way I could have given up partial control to someone else for one of the biggest days of our lives. Of course now that we're down to the wire and making the small, monotonous decisions, it's getting a little frustrating, but overall I've loved the planning process. We did hire a DOC so that we don't have to worry about setup, tear down, or anything in between on the day of the wedding.

I have a planner and I’m sooo glad I do! My job keeps me insanely busy and having someone to do all the leg work and take care of the little things was such a relief! There were so many things our planner took care of for us that I never would have even though we needed to do. For example our caterer doesn’t provide plates etc and I would have had no idea at all where to look for rentals. Also he did all of the price comparing for us, so he would talk to vendors and bring us 4 quotes and we would just pick which ever vendor we liked most knowing their pricing already—plus since he’s part of the industry he got a lot of discounts! It’s also nice to have someone with so much experience help plan your timeline, plus he and an assistant will be our day of coordinators. It was a huge relief to have someone to take a lot of stress off of me. Planning and having a wedding planner has made the process so much easier and in turn so much more fun because I’m not stressed about it! If it’s in your budget I ****% recommended getting a planner!

Wedding planner = best wedding decision I have made!!!

This has been so worth the money for me. She has helped with everything from selecting vendors to etiquette. She has made this whole process not stressful and for that I am most grateful! I am confident our day will run smoother because she is involved.

We had one and it was the best decision we made. But I was never the type of girl who had her wedding planned out and I wanted someone to select things for me and handle communication with vendors. She was very expensive though so if you have a small budget for your wedding it wouldn’t be the most economical decision.

I am in the same boat. I have a supportive family, and I have a lot of time to plan and research, so I am not sure I really need one. I have been staying off of pinterest as well (I don't want to get overwhelmed either!). I feel like maybe the Event Planner at the venue will be amazing to have on the day of, so I don't even know if I should have a DOP to be honest.

That is a great point. I didn't even think about the total overall cost of a wedding planner. thank you for that insight!!

What did your DOP help with? Did your venue also offer a Event Planner to help? What were the big benefits of your DOP that you really loved? Also, what did your DOP cost if you don' mind me asking?

No problem. I paid $12,000 for my wedding planner but my friends in lower cost of living areas have paid closer to 5 or $6,0000

I have a free day of coordinator included with my venue, and I am planning the wedding with help from FH, my mom and my MOH/twin sister!

Our venue does not provide a planner or coordinator. We payed $1300 for our package, which includes our DOC and two assistants. She will help with our timeline, call all of our vendors to finalize details the week before the wedding, handle all vendor and guest communication the day of, handle setup and tear down (our biggest factor.)

Yeah i think the event planner is enough personally i didn't go for the DOP at all, it depends what your personal preferences are, for us we wanted to make the wedding feel like us and have a more relaxed atmosphere and once we booked the catering things started to fall in their place bit by bit, so you can totally do it Smiley smile

My biggest thing, considering my venue, is event design/set up. No way will I be able to do it because I have no idea where to start. I just want to see the finished product. I got most of the stuff on my own. I need minimal help and I found a wonderful person for partial planning who will do that (and the few other things I need assistance with) for $1900 and that also includes a DOC. I'm beyond excited because someone else I spoke with quoted me at $5200 for partial planning! I know generally, planners are expensive but I'm so glad I dodged that bullet!

Wow! That seems like a good deal. Are they helping you find some vendors and things? What else are they helping you with? I know you said partial planning, I am curious what that "partial planning" entails.

I've found most of the vendors on my own so I only need help with finding decor rentals and a florist, so yes he is. He's also helping with budgeting and ordering (from the vendors I'm assuming), our wedding rehearsal and event design set up/break down like I already mentioned.

He will do a venue walk through, he'll create our wedding timeline we'll have him and/or his team for up to 8 hours for DOC service. I actually found him on Thumbtack which is also the same site I hired our engagement photographer from so I'm excited for that as well. I would highly recommend looking up Thumbtack to see what planners are charging in your area or where you're getting married.

She is going to run the show the day of the wedding! She'll be in charge of set up, directing everyone down the when the time comes, keeping the day of schedule with the other vendors and cleaning up! My mom, sister and I have watched wedding shows for forever so we are so excited to get to plan one!! FH is so much more invlved than I thought he would want to be so I'm really happy with how it's going so far! Smiley smile
