Wedding Planner is now the Bride

Haley, on June 7, 2019 at 9:55 AM Posted in Planning 0 15

So I used to be a wedding planner and I am having such a hard time with having other people decorate/plan my wedding and not being there to help set up. I am so use to being in control and I am having the hardest time allowing myself to give the control to other people. Anyone have any advice on how to not stress on the big day and just roll with it?

I am not/have never been a wedding planner, but I am very OCD and extremely type A, so I understand your struggle! We have a wedding planner and honestly, I could not do this without her! I am just telling myself that she is a professional and reminding myself that I have other life stressors and my wedding should not be one of them lol. I tell her EXACTLY what I want, show her multiple photos of my ideas and inspirations, and just trust that she can make it happen.

I don't think I am going to get a wedding planner but I think I might get a day of coordinator so I don't have to worry about anything while I get ready. I definitely agree that there are other big life stressors than the wedding and have to keep reminding myself that. Thank you! Hope your day is everything you want it to be! Smiley smile

I agree with Meghan. I am not a wedding planner but II like what I like and know what I like so I am big into organization and everything being correct. I have a DOC and set up crew. But I will be just upstairs in the bridal suite so I can check it out when it's done or give direction if they have any troubles! I hate setting up friends' weddings I was in lol but I wanna make sure mine is right!

I will say that it’s hard at times. I’m a type A and like to be in control of things as well but I quickly realized that I didn’t want to stress about everything and picked the things that I would control and let my coordinator do the rest. I sent lots of detailed emails and pictures and we talked once a week as it got close and she was amazing. I realized early on that something would like go wrong and nobody but me would likely notice so I had to let go a bit. It was hard but I’m glad I did it. Just be clear about what you want and document it and send pics if needed and then review. Good luck.

I FEEL YA. i am mostly a relaxed bride but i have my type A moments where i just wish i did not have to relinquish control.

just have faith that everything will come together, you know that right? Smiley smile

one of the things i would recommend is maybe you can set up the things how you like and give people pictures to model it after? i actually took the liberty of setting up examples of my stuff on tables and took pictures of it that i will send to my DOC as reference.

It's so hard! Be sure to take time to decide who you trust with these tasks. I think knowing who I picked to do things while I can't do them and having that trust is going to help me. Maybe that will help you?

Not a wedding planner, but I have been a paid professional event planner.
I gave up on the idea of hiring a planner. Due to cost, the fact that I planned most of my wedding in less than a week, and being a control freak.
I talked to someone about day of coordination, but it sounded like it was way too hands off for me.

Oooh thats a good idea! My bridal suite is on property as well so maybe half way through I can give a glance in just to get myself at ease. Thank you!

I keep reminding myself that I have to realize that things can go wrong and its out of my hands and I just have to go with it. I am going to make sure I have pictures of everything so they atleast know what I want. Thanks!

Yes! I am doing this and I am also labeling everything with where I want the items. I'm not technically having professionals setting up my wedding (its my old boss who was a wedding planner and also is a family friend plus other family members) so it should be easy to tell them how I want everything. Fingers crossed! Thanks!

Yes I am actually having family members who have done weddings before setting up so I am going to give them all the information/pictures I can to show how I want it all. Thankfully I trust them alot! Thanks!

Yes! I decided to plan my own wedding because of cost and the fact that I have done it so many times before for other people so doing my own was a must! The planning part has been pretty easy for me, its the day of part that scares me. I think I am going to have a day of coordinator to make sure the time line is running smoothly. I am having a destination wedding so I want to make sure my guests are arriving at the right time with the transportation I provided and having someone there to do that for me would be a big stress reliever. Thanks!

Former event planner and occasional Day Of Coordinater here. I totally feel ya on letting go of control- it is hard! I am planning the whole thing. Right now I'm putting together an event guide that is going to outline everything as I would have done it, with diagrams and charts and assign responsibilities. Leading up to the big day, I know I will be all over every detail, but on the actual day I think I'm going to be too nervous to focus on if the terrarium centerpieces are placed every 3 feet with 5 votive laid in between (little stuff... you know what I mean). Take a deep breath and remember - everyone wants it to be beautiful and perfect too!
