Wedding planner, did you hire one? Why or why not?

Erin, on August 17, 2017 at 8:10 AM Posted in Planning 0 21

So I just got engaged this past weekend (yay) and am in the full swing of trying to figure things out. One thing I'm wondering though, is do I want a planner. Did you hire one? Why or why not? Did you regret your decision or love it?

My boyfriend works a normal 9-5 but I manage a Sephora and freelance in makeup so my schedule is less then forgiving. With holiday season coming in retail I'm just worried that I will ultimately forget or over look something because of how crazy my schedule will be.

Congrats on your engagement! The checklist available on WeddingWire is super helpful to make sure you don't forget anything. At first, we decided not to hire a planner, and the early stages of planning were okay. We did end up hiring a team of DOCs (day of coordinators) to make sure that our vendors arrived on time and that the day went smoothly. I highly recommend that, because it allows you to be in the moment and enjoy the day without worrying about something going wrong.

I didn't see the need to hire a planner for the entire process, but with your schedule I would consider it if you can make it work with your wedding budget.

I personally did not hire one, because its not in my budget and because I'm a micro-manager, so I have every detail planed out already, but you know you better than anyone else, so If you know you're not good with planning or time management, I would get one to keep the flow of things better. Also, your budget is reallllllly important when it comes to things like this.

I hired one, but only to coordinate the day of the wedding. Believe me, if I could have afforded it, I would have done full service planning! She has already stepped in and done so much more than day-of - she helped me find a vendor when I couldn't find one myself, has been available through email, and worth her weight in gold! I really didn't want to be hulking out on my wedding day, worrying about decorating, setting up, etc.

Congratuations! Hiring a WP is totally up to you. I work 40 hours a week and planning is easy. I do have some downtime at work to browse the vendor tab and contact vendors via email but over all-We had no problems contacting vendors, negotiating prices and putting together a vision. I've had no problems doing that on my own. However, we did hire a DOC. I am so glad we did. Ours takes over Wedding Planning 60 days before the event, does all the final communications with the vendors, timeline and schedules everyone to be at the right place at the right time, then facilitates everything the day of.

I wanted to hire a planner as I work two jobs and FH is very busy with his job and hobbies. After researching the cost of a planner, I couldn't afford it. I'm glad I didn't hire one as I've been able to get a lot done and still have plenty of time left before my wedding. I am a type a so it was probably best I didn't hire someone. If you can handle things on your own, I recommend you do (especially since it'll save money). If not, because of your schedules, I suggest you reach out to someone in your area to see what they can help with. Maybe you don't need someone to plan the entire thing, but instead someone who can help you reach out to vendors. Good luck and congrats!

We were going to just hire a DOC but my career changed up a bit. So the added stress of trying to be a rockstar at the new job and getting the wedding we envision, we decided on full planning. We just interviewed a top contender and already have every confidence she'll work really hard to get us that dream day. Shop around until you get someone you click with.

I didn't hire a full planner but I did hire a DOC (I guess he's more of a month of planner/coordinator) who has already started working. We had our first wedding planning meeting with him this past Sunday and after that meeting - we feel like he is worth every penny that we are spending. We went through the entire day, he gave me ideas of things that I missed or things that he thinks would work better, helped me better envision my decor and additional things decor wise that could be done, will be planning my schedules and layouts, setting up all of our decor, etc. He will also be the one to confirm all of my vendors, confirm schedules with them, and be in charge of their arrival and set-ups. If it is in your budget then I say go for it, at a minimum though I would look to hire a DOC and if possible find someone who does the month of or a couple of months before. I almost didn't hire one and am so glad now that I did.

I totally agree with what the other posters have stated. I'm hiring just a Day-Of Coordinator for mine wedding day as I am too micro-management style to have someone completely take over wedding planning. Plus, it turns out that I really enjoy it.

Depends on if you can afford it/size and type of wedding to planning on having. I have a high demand job and two kids. I about drove myself and everyone else crazy by the end because I was so overwhelmed. I had a day of only, which was very helpful. Good thing it was a small wedding!

    Congratulations!

We decided not to hire a planner - we chose a venue that was mostly all-inclusive of food, alcohol, DJ, and the majority of our decor, so our list of things to worry about was pretty small! Our venue also includes the manager as a day-of coordinator.

If possible, I'd recommend trying to find a venue that includes a lot of things so that you have less to think about. It's totally doable to plan everything on your own, but I say that as someone who's been pinning wedding ideas to a Pinterest board for years. All I had to do was take those ideas to the florist/baker/etc. At the bare minimum you might want to look into a day-of coordinator.

    Good luck and happy planning!

I did not have one. I work fulltime and I am a mom of 4 kids and I loved planning the wedding. I also am very OCD so I have a hard time allowing people to handle things for me it's better if I do it myself otherwise I get really stressed out that it's not going to be done right.

I didn't hire a planner and was going to just do a DOC but thankfully the venue that I went with includes an event coordinator that does the DOC job so that's one less individual cost.

It was required by the hotel. Nice by not necessary. I am a micro manager on steroids anyway.

I wasn't going to. But I was having a hard time with some of the "design" planning aspect; and decided to go ahead and hire someone for that as well as DOC services. It was a HUGE relief when I did.

We didn't hire a WP mainly because it was not in our budget to do so. I would definitely have done so if it was in our budget, but in planning the wedding ourselves we became more knowledgeable about vendors in our area and their services. There were phases of planning where we definitely wanted to pull in a DOC, but we are well managing without one so far.

Congratulations on your engagement! My FH and I did hire a planner but we found one that really worked with our budget and specializes in working with couples on lower budgets and let us set up payments. I work nearly 65+ hours a week and my fiancé is close to that as well. I am a control freak but the lack of spare time was our main motivator. So far its been very worth it!!!

If I could hire a planner I would Smiley smile im not into planning stuff. Although if you are, it's really not that hard. There are check lists and If you browse on the forums here you will be reminded of things that you didn't think of. I will say as the day got close i got a lot busier (like every weekend I had something to do. Hair appt, dress fitting, cake tasting, meet with photographer, blah blah blah, it's getting so old.)

personally did now not lease one, because it's now not in my price range and due to the fact I'm a micro-manager, so I have every detail planned out already, but you higher than everybody else, so in case you know you are now not right with making plans or time control. For more information

Nope, we didn't because of financial reasons. We decided we'd rather spend that money in other areas. Our caterer includes a day of coordinator. If we had more money to play around with, we probably would have hired a wedding planner and we had two and a half years to plan.

Congrats! I am very detail oriented and my job right now is allowing me time to wedding plan. My budget isn't very big so I am not using any wedding planners. If I go crazy later on, I may consider a day of coordinator...
