Wedding Party "proposals": Necessary or Extra?

The Bride, on June 30, 2019 at 12:17 PM Posted in Planning 0 93

My now husband and I thought long and hard about who we wanted to be a part of our wedding party. When it was time to ask each person to be apart of the wedding we wanted it to be a cute moment.

The guys received a custom made box with a shot class, small bottle of alcohol and a note that read "It's time to suit up. WIll you be my groomsmen/best man?

The girls received a custom made box with a ring pop and a note that read "He popped the question, now it's my turn...will you be my bridesmaid/maid of honor?"

What are your thoughts? Are wedding party "proposals" necessary or extra?

Not necessary and honestly seems like a bribe to me. We didn't ask publicly or give any gifts when we asked our bridal party because we didn't want to put unwanted pressure on them. They were all thrilled and still said yes.

Smiley xd That's a unique perspective. Most of our wedding party live in a different state from us so we mailed them out. Also, no one was really surprised that we asked them and were super excited to be apart of the wedding.

Not necessary but they're so cute. I kind of wish I did one just because I think it would have been cute of them to see and have

I agree that it can be super cute and the reactions we got were even better.

I think they are cute (not necessary, but cute) and I like that you didn’t do something super extravagant. I made my MOH a card, a personalized mug, and filled the mug with her favorite candy.

Not necessary but definitely cute. I did a ring pop, custom T-shirt’s and personalized water bottle with a heartfelt card. My girls loved it.

Definitely not necessary but I love the idea. Yours are really cute! I just had my daughter as my MOH so I didn’t really have girls to ask but it’s really a fun idea.

I'm not a fan, but I see why people like them.
So far we only officially settled on maid of honor because my fiance has friends who are in the process of securing visas and we don't know who will be here or not before we decide. I think everyone we want has a suspicion though because they've all mentioned they want to help. 😆

I think they are cute, but never necessary! We basically did the same thing for our bridesmaids 😍 I really wanted to do something so I made boxes like that with tank tops I made and sunglasses that said bridesmaid and decorated the box with my colors. They loved it!!! But my FH didnt want to do anything and just texted them. But I at least had him text them a screenshot of a cute will you be my groomsmen saying lol

It’s not necessary. I did them and they were very well received. Just something nice from me to my girls.

I think it’s nice but not necessary either. I’ve already told two of my girls and they were thrilled. The other two are surprises (for no other reason than I spend time weekly with those 2 versus the others living in different states). I still got everyone personalized cards from Etsy for $4 each (LailaMeDesigns) and wrote heartfelt notes.

In my opinion, "extra". I don't really like them, to be honest. I agree with Caytlyn. It feels like it makes a big show and people may agree to be in the wedding who otherwise wouldn't due to finances, family...whatever.

Didn't even know it was a thing before joining the forums. We just asked our people. I don't think a gift /proposal is necessary.

It's definitely not necessary at all. I've just always wanted to do them because I think they are cute. Also, we are having a rainbow colored wedding, so when i was researching, I saw bridesmaid proposal boxes that were each a different color. I thought it was really neat and immediately wanted to do it. It's really up to you. If you like the idea, do it, and don't let anyone tell you it's "too extra."

I think the key to a wedding party "proposal" is to be cute but cheap, lol.

So extra IMO but great for others if they like it.

I agree that they are not necessary but can be super cute and sweet. My husband wanted to just text all the guys in a group chat and say "congratulations, you're all in my wedding party."
