Wedding Party "proposals": Necessary or Extra?

My now husband and I thought long and hard about who we wanted to be a part of our wedding party. When it was time to ask each person to be apart of the wedding we wanted it to be a cute moment.

The guys received a custom made box with a shot class, small bottle of alcohol and a note that read "It's time to suit up. WIll you be my groomsmen/best man?

The girls received a custom made box with a ring pop and a note that read "He popped the question, now it's my turn...will you be my bridesmaid/maid of honor?"

What are your thoughts? Are wedding party "proposals" necessary or extra?

I agree that its extra. I never thought of it as bribery but I think that's a unique perspective.

For me a wedding is about unifying a couple, I feel like there's a lot of emphasis on buying things now and it's very commercial, a lot of gifts and money and not so much about the original purpose. I guess it's similar thing to how people feel about Christmas. 🤔🤣🤦

Not really bribery in my mind so much as that it might make it difficult for people to decline if they think you put work/money into it, even if they feel they can't make the commitment to be in the wedding.

It's not necessary but it's cute. I did boxes for my girls. I asked them before I made the boxes though, I didn't want them to feel forced to say yes. So mine was more of a "thank you for saying yes" rather than a proposal.

Extra, but cute. Definitely part of the Instagram/Pinterest culture. Plus, if you have a large party, that's quite a chunk of change. That being said, I've seen some really adorable boxes! To each their own!

I think they are unnecessary, but I did get a cute koozie that said "the best party is a wedding party" like $2, so no pressure.

I asked my BM then gave them a ring pop after their said yes. A few months after. Can I ask why you did not let your husband ask his grooms man the way he wanted to?

As an older first time bride, it seems a bit extra and unnecessary in my opinion...when the majority of friends were getting married 20-25 years ago, a simple phone call would have sufficed.

Smiley love I definitely found those ideas on Pinterest. Our wedding party consisted of 6 girls and 6 guys, We may have spent $50 on the boxes we made.

Koozies are really cute, one of our friends gave them out as their wedding favors.

It's not that I didn't let him, we just agreed to do it in a more unique way. 3 of the guys in our wedding party are married and none of them had a wedding party "proposal" so he wanted to be different.

I think if it's in your budget, it's a fun way to get everyone excited about the wedding! However, it does put pressure on the people you ask. Definitely not necessary
