Wedding no shows?

Julie, on December 27, 2013 at 11:54 PM Posted in Planning 0 32

How many people rsvp'd to your wedding then didn't show up? I'm worried that's gonna happen. Plus those extra escort cards not claimed are going to piss me off

It's going to happen. Nothing you can do to stop it. Emergencies arise, work schedules shift, people get sick. Sucks, but that's life.

Well I know a couple people that always say they are going to everything they are invited to then never show up. One is one of my bridesmaids she won't get out of this one!! Haha

I don't want to be friends anymore with the people on FHs side who no showed and we still haven't heard from them.

I'm not kidding. It's a crappy thing to do and you don't even have the guts to reach out to us. Just RSVP no.

Here you are Julie...this thread seems informative and helpful https://www.weddingwire.com/wedding-forums/wedding-guests-how-many-no-shows-can-expect/ff326570b35dd471.html

Unlike the OUTSTANDING idea of billing each of your no shows...and no I didn't miss the sarcasm in that stellar response :-/

I think that some guests just don't get it; in my area, two guests at a wedding (including the invite, part of the centerpiece, the favor, the postage and all the service charges involved) can run between 150-250.00. If you can't come, tell me no. If you find out you can't come two weeks ahead of time, let me know so I can let my venue know.

    People are rude. Some people.

That's my biggest fear for the wedding. FH's family is famous for doing that!!

I posted about this a few months ago and remember the responses from brides who gave numbers on no-shows. It seems like the average, from what I remember, is about 1-2% but I think a lot depends on the area you are in. Most of the no-shows had good reason: hospitalization, death in family, etc; some gave no reason at all for some of the brides, but it seemed like that happened at the more casual weddings. For some reason, they seem to get more no-shows.

If you think this might happen, reserve a smaller number with your venue (maybe 5% of your guests who have RSVPd) and make sure your venue can accommodate at least 10% upwards.

@Danielle, seriously?! WTF?! I would be sooo upset. Was there a reason (like, a snow storm?) Or just a bunch of inconsiderate jerks?

We received snow on Saturday. By Sunday evening, roads were completely clear. I think a lot of ours was because they didnt realize it was on a Sunday until the week of. Most of what we've gotten was "I'm sorry, something else came up that day". Whatevs. I've got chicken coming out of my ears since we ordered for 120! Lol

There are so many various costs that some people might not realize the impact of no showing.

10 people no-showing might cost one bride $1,000 if the venue is charging $100 a plate. 10 people no-showing for mine is not a financial big deal because we're not being charged per person.

Danielle, don't you ever invite those other 60 people to anything again.

I read on some wedding site that if you are doing buffet, you should give the caterer a 10% lower # then how many actually RSVP. If everyone does in fact come they will always have enough food if you are doing buffet vs sit down. Also it does account for a few no shows and then you are not paying for people who don't show up.

I lost a few friends since the wedding because of the last minute cancellations and no shows. I'm tired of the inconsiderate asses. lol Then there are a few who drank all night and didn't even leave a card. I'm tired of having friends.

We had two last minute (3 days before) cancellations due to injury and illness, but none of our guests just no-showed without notification. We also were lucky enough not to have any unexpected guests.

You know your guests best and should probably be able to gauge who you might need to worry about.
