Wedding luncheon reception

Adventure, on April 8, 2019 at 11:58 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 5
I have been thinking about instead of having an evening reception just having an luncheon immediately following the ceremony. The menu would be simple and we would cut the cake.
Just figuring out pricing is overwhelming for an evening reception! The church has a wonderful open and beautiful fellowship hall.
Our guest list is just around 100. As few guests mostly will be coming from 90min away. And time of the ceremony would late morning (11 am ish)

I have mentioned it to FH but he states we still have time to decide and kidney to sell (😋). The last thing I want to be thinking about is the expense on our special day.
I know it's not really traditional in our area. Would this be bad taste?

No I don't think it bad taste, but I do agree with your FH you still have lots of time to save and I think dinner makes it a much nicer event. You shouldn't go into debt over your wedding so if doing lunch instead is all you can afford then so be it.

A lunch reception is lovely! So many fun food options too. And for a lunch wedding, it’s fine to skip alcohol and a DJ/dancing (which saves more money). 😊

We are having our ceremony at 11 and brunch after. It wasnt even a cost thing, I just like brunch food way better and we arent party goers anyways. I dont think it's in bad taste!! Menu will be shrimp and grits, chicken and waffles, an omelette station, and pecan French toast. We will have a bloody Mary and mimosa bar. Still having a DJ but he will play more of upbeat day music (Michael Buble, Jack Johnson, etc) We hired a mobile coffee company that will be making lattes and any other coffee drink. We will have some lawn games outside. I say go for it!!

Hey! Personally, I think a brunch/lunch reception is a great idea! You and your SO should decide if this is exactly what you both want, but I certainly don't think it would look cheap or be in bad taste!

I found this article in the WeddingWire ideas section that I think you might be interested in reading - 7 Benefits Of Having A Brunch Wedding

There are some really great decor ideas that you could incorporate to a brunch wedding also! I had a look on Pinterest for some inspiration!

I would LOVE a brunch or lunch reception. Also, if your ceremony is late morning that way too big of a gap before a dinner reception.
