Wedding Handkerchiefs, really so expensive?!?!

Mika, on June 16, 2012 at 2:05 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14

I absolutely ADORE some save the dates that I found using lace handkerchiefs, and as I 'm a cry-er along with my mom and his mom, I'd love to have handkerchiefs available, or even to diy some special ones for mothers, grandmothers, and so on. I've found some places that sell embroidered hankies, and some that sell plain hankies, but sooooo expensive, on the order of 10 or 15 dollars per hankie. This is waaay out of my budget. I keep seeing people who have done them as save the dates, so surely they didn't pay 15 dollars per std... A little scrap of thin white fabric and a little smidgen of lace can't possible be that pricey, right? I guess I can't ask for a specific vendor without violating the t&c, but do affordable hankies exist? If so, what search terms might one use to find them? Thanks all!!!

I don't think 10-15 is all that expensive. Think of how much time and effort they are putting into that hankie. I found so many on etsy search wedding handkerchief and I know that one vendor sells like 3 for 35... I hope that helps, but remember .... you get what you pay for

Mika - pretty please change your avatar to anything but the salt & pepper shaker.

I bought 5 dozen hankies on line for 50 bucks and I'll be darned if I can find the website I got them from. But I'll keep looking for you ONLY if you change your pic LOL

From there I hand stamped them & traced the stamp w/ colored glitter pens. Rolled them up, tied 'em w/ a bow, put a tag on that said

    Tears of Laughter

    Tears of Joy

    Tears of Happily Ever After

The whole project start to finish took about 8 hours - the tracing was very time consuming.

I found my vintage hankies at flea markets. I never paid more than $1 for a hankie, and most of them I got for a quarter!

We also ordered handkerchiefs through etsy, but ours were custom embroidered and we gave them as gifts. So in our case I felt it was a very fair retail price, as they were each unique and very professionally/beautifully done.

For blank/plain ones to DIY? Heck no I wouldn't pay that much, I would look into the site Marie posted or hit the flea markets like Kristen did!

You might search for "lace handkerchief lot" on eBay. I found a bunch of listings that way.

@ Marie, thank you for the site! Were you able to find the one you used? Because the one you posted only had colors, not white.

If you are ordering enough hankies with the same personalization some shops will give you a discount. You usually have to order at least 10 or more though. I consider the time and quality going into each one. I don't think paying $15 each for bulk orders is too much at all. I know of one site I like Li'l Inspirations - http://www.lil-inspirations.com
