Wedding fund jar

Carly, on August 11, 2019 at 10:18 AM Posted in Planning 0 19
I made this jar to save money. I Uber on the side and half of what I make goes here. My fiance is putting money in. It's been very help, keeps us from spending our savings. plus an app I have let's us keep track. I recommend it if you're a saver like me.

We have a jar. And I really don't care cash so I never have change. But We already have two kids so there's always a lot of laundry. So what I've been doing is instead of washing clothes at home and it being an all day job ugghhhhh, I'll go to the laundry mat every Sat or Sunday get about $40-$50 in quarters and I usually have about $20-$25 in quarters left. so I put those in the jar. I do that to help me save because who is going to walk around with 40 quarters in their pockets lol. Plus, if I go early enough I can wash all the clothes at once! And it's been working for me! The last jar had over $250! And I'm on to the next jar!!

Very pretty design! Wish I had better handwriting.

I'd definitely also recommend an online savings with a higher interest rate, and automating some deposits into there (especially if either of you have a direct deposit job). You can just tell it to send $20, $100, whatever from a pay period into that separate account and you'll never see the $ you've sent. Automating savings in that way has really helped me build up without having to remember to transfer money - there's just less money in the main account and you have to make that work with your budget. My online bank right now is over 2% interest, which is really good for what's been typical rates - and no minimum deposit. Let your money grow for you while you sleep! Smiley tongue

We did something similar. We call it the hat fund! Mostly because we would take some cash out of each paycheck and put it in a binder clip that we had hidden in hubby's hat.
We've moved it to a box now, but I save better in cash than Indo in my actual savings account because I'm much less likely to take some out of the box than just transfer it back into my savings account.

Nice that is fun. I always find my change in that laundry too. It adds up for sure.

We have a change bucket and I've started taking select bills out of my wallet at the end of each week to add in. Thankfully my FH and I are really good at saving.

I didn't think about doing that! We have an app to help us start a budget so we can watch our spending's but never thought about setting money aside! Thank you for the idea because we will give it a whirl! =)

This is a great idea, Carly!

I did something similar before, where every week I put $5 into a jar and any spare change. It was amazing how quickly it added up!

You're welcome. We have a budget app to, but I feel this is a easier way to see it being saved and when it's being spent. Especially with using the budget thing they have on here.
