Wedding Favors

Carrie, on January 8, 2020 at 4:47 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 12

So my FH an I had talked about favors we were having a hard time deciding. I had said what about Christmas ornaments date is 10-31-20 (theme Simply Meant to Be, Jack and Sally Nightmare before Christmas) so Christmas is not to far off from our wedding. I want to do the DIY ornaments use glitter (colors of the wedding) inside an then put the date on the outside. I dont want to ANY type of edibles cause we are having a cake/dessert table (cake vendor GREAT price with cake included and like 5 other desserts) so edible favors are out due to having the sweet table. Someone told me that the idea was great then someone said it was bad cause NO ONE wants an ornament with some else name on it. Our guest list is LITERALLY just family an a hand full of friend (mainly people who we consider family as well). Being that Christmas just ended the ornaments were on clearance and glitter is really not that expensive. Am i wrong for not wanting edibles? Am i wrong for wanting ornaments? Just need some advice as to the direction I should go or not go with this. Thanks all

The last wedding that I went to.. oye.. so many weird momentos to remember their special day. I know it's a really sweet thing but I basically just threw it all away when I got home. I would have LOVED an ornament. It's so much more useful than a t-shirt with someone else's name, or a coaster that doesn't match anything else, or a flask that I'll never use. At least with an ornament, if people don't like it, they can put it in with their x-mas box and look at it once a year when they unpack everything else. I say go for it!

I would never hang someone else's wedding date on my tree.. Maybe my child's but that's it. It is a really cute idea, so as long as it doesn't cost that much go for it. You're not wrong for not wanting some edible because wedding deserts are already amazing! I'm definitely on the "wedding favors are a waste of time, money and energy" but its your wedding so do what you truly want!

Thank you avery!!! I love the idea too of ornaments, I know I would def use it if I was to get it. It would be a nice reminder to a nice wedding. I think the edibles are kinda cliche honestly cause EVERYONE does it. I want to be different outside the box I literally think everything we are doing is not the "normal"that everyone else would do.

I wouldn’t want an ornament with someone else’s name on it -or anything else for that matter. But it’s just my taste not yours. Why not something fun geared towards your awesome date? Vampire teeth? Wax lips? Or something that is you? My friends gave out kazoos. It was them and fun.

As a guest, an ornament (Nightmare before Christmas theme) is cute especially if the theme of your wedding. I would NOT want your names or date on it. The theme would remind me of your wedding. Nobody wants personalized favors from someone else’s wedding.

But not all guests would appreciate an ornament. Why not a Sally & Jack cookie? Edibles are really the only thing all guests will likely take home. Unless guests are really ONLY your immediate family.

Yes the guest list is mainly ALL family and like I had stated a few friends. I DONT want to do edible cause of the dessert table as I also stated in my post, now if my baker is willing to make the cookies in a shape like maybe jack and sally faces then I will be putting bags on the side so guests if they like they can take them home. I am thinking of doing a jack and sally silhouette on the ornaments that is one of the ideas I had in mind. I guess I am one of those people that would prefer a NON edible for a favor then an edible, cause its not something to look back an remember. My cousin had bride and groom oreo cookies and I NEVER ate them i threw them away.

I love your theme! Another idea could be a succulent or seeds. You could include some clever wording about deadly nightshade, especially if it is something like basil or another herb.

I’d re-think the glitter. We don’t allow it in our home, it gets everywhere. Love the seeds or succulents idea - very on trend. You could do holiday scented candles, putting stickers with your initials and wedding date on the glass.

We are also getting married 10/31 and having a Nightmare Before Christmas theme. I like the ornament idea. It really makes sense with the theme. I found these on Esty...so this may be the direction we go and it won’t be terribly expensive:

Thanks Jennifer! I had thought of the idea out of no where, cause I couldnt think of anything else to do. I dont want to do the edibles thing cause of the cake/dessert table. Keychains, cuzies, candybars, those are becoming cliche an SO common I just was trying to think outside the box really.
