Wedding Favors

Anna, on May 21, 2019 at 5:45 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 42
We have been debating on if we get wedding favors or not. Our wedding is fairly large so I don't want to spend copious amounts of money on something somebody will just have sitting around. If we do something, we would like to do something that is usuable. What are your thoughts on usuable favors and any ideas would be very helpful?

Totally ok to skip. Nobody will miss 'em. If you really want to do them, only edibles will likely be taken and not left behind: cookie, chocolate, cake pop, coffee, honey, candy bar, etc.

For our favors, my fmil is making cake pops in our wedding colors. We are also buying cute little glasses with our names and wedding date that we will fill with M&Ms that are also our wedding colors and we are going to set the cake pop on top of the M&Ms. Below is like what we are looking at. A friend of ours got glasses very similar and we use then all the time. However, they aren't something you have to have unless you want to.

We haven't gotten them yet, but there are numerous websites that sell glasses just like them. The ones in the photo are from party city. You can also find similar glasses on myweddingfavors.com, Amazon, David's Bridal, and some other sites. When we started looking we googled stemless wedding wine glasses.

I would do something edible or skip it. Things engraved with your name and wedding date that you expect people to keep will get left or end up in the trash for the most part.

It’s ok to skip. We are just going to have a candy bar. Favors can be a waste of money. I never keep favors from weddings.

Save your money! The problem with MOST favors is that 1.) they’re usually useless, so no one wants them and therefore guests leave them on the table 2.) they’re usually a last minute afterthought that was purchased with the few dollars left over. So they end up looking exactly like that— a cheap afterthought (which is a crappy way to say “thank you”) 3.) edible favors are probably the best but after after eating appetizers, dinner and dessert... another edible item isn’t very special and 3.) They’re not necessary.

A better and more heartfelt “thank you“ is to simply stand up, get on the mic and tell your guests, parents, BP, etc. THANK YOU (verbally). People will remember the emotion and special things you express, more than a piece of candy wrapped in tulle.

Ditto! I definitely don’t want something with someone else’s name or monogram on it. Only moms and grandmothers like that kind of stuff.

I agree with everyone else! Skip or edible. I would definitely not keep something with someone else's name/date on it but I always love free food 🤷

Edible--there are so many foods, candies, etc that you can customize with your names and wedding date. I think it's the best option. Guests are more likely to take an edible favor, and then you're not stuck with a bunch of them leftover.

People on this site are really down on favors for some reason. In my area, lots of people have customized drink koozies that people can use with the beer at the wedding then take home. We have LOTS from various weddings that we use all the time! This is what we’re doing. Relatively inexpensive and really cute and fun.

I ordered custom koozies for our wedding. All of my friends and family seem to enjoy those. I’ve kept all of my friends’ koozies from their weddings over the years. Some people probably won’t keep them, but whatever. Doing something edible is also a really great idea. Most people like food! 😜

We opted out of favors just because most people just leave them. If we were to do them we would have chosen something edible. I've seem custom cookies that were adorable.

We didn’t want to get something that won’t be used.
We went with handmade ornaments. My step mom made them. 140 of them.
They are really pretty. I’ll look for a photo to post.

We also decided on a beer coozie for each person at the rehearsal dinner, 60 people will be there. These aren’t the gift for the bridal party. Just a nice touch that we know will get used.

We are either going to do a donut in a cute little bag and/ or a donation in everyone’s name instead. I’m leaning towards that because nobody really ever takes them home and if I donate I can know that the money I would spend on stuff is not going to waste but instead going to a good cause. Edible stuff is definitely cheaper but it’s still another cost that can be used elsewhere. I’m still making my mind up about favors all together.

These are adorable, but keep in mind people may not take items like that that have your name on them. Some will, but some won’t. My sister did this for hers and had an entire case of custom pint glasses left over.

They were my fiance's idea and I'm going along with it because he says I never listen to his ideas 🙄 I just wanted to do the cake pops. He wants something people can keep and he thinks by filling the glasses with candy that will make people take them.
