Wedding dresses for short curvy girls

Calli, on September 10, 2015 at 10:58 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 15

So as someone who cannot accurately see my body in a mirror and who never wears dresses, i'm at a loss as to what style dress will work with my body. I have some very intense curves (34 F), size 6, and i'm only 5'2" so I both worry about something overwhelming my petite frame or looking scanky. Any suggestions?

You're going to be surprised by this, but... Consider a ball gown! I am 5'3 and very busty, and o thought i would look ridiculous but it would've been my pick if it weren't that i had a casual venue and it was too formal. It had straps, so i could wear a real bra, and the extra pouf balanced my curves, but didn't overwhelm me. They aren't all Cinderella huge.

Also, look for an illusion lace, sleeveless top... It balances and gives coverage.

Let the stylist help you... Try on every style they suggest because you're going to inevitably find you think you'll hate something and it's the greatest looking dress on!

Finally, ANY dress can have sleeves, cap sleeves, even long sleeves... You can add them after you get the dress, but try to decide when you order. Have them hold tulle over your shoulders to get an idea.. It can transform a dress, and let you wear a good bra. I speak from experience!

Currently I'm a 36D and 5'2".. I did a A line dress with a dropped waist.. When I tried it on, it made me feel taller than I was. We will see what will happen after alterations :-) - hopefully I will feel even better in it!

The mobile site is giving me fits! The first pic is my friend... These are mine. Btw, i bought a white bridesmaid dress, and they often have more strap and sleeve options.. And are cheaper, and easier to tailor. Fyi.

Initial fitting, the lace is just draped on my shoulders at this point. Dress is A-line.

Rebecca thank you for the suggestions! I really like your friend's dress and that is more the vibe I've been looking for!

I'm a 32 DD, size 4-6 but definitely have some hips (thank you, grandma), and 5'1. I'll be wearing a full a line, and it pulls in on my small waist perfectly because of the corset back. It really accentuates the smallest part of my curves and hides my thighs well. No pictures of me in the dress yet, sadly.

I'm 5 ft tall and have a 34dd... I wore a halter dress with an open back(had a strip going down the center with a bow).

I am not that short so maybe this won't help. But since I am large-chested I wanted more of a defined waist so I went with a drop-waist ball gown. I was surprised that such a fitted look could look good on me!

I can't speak for the chest department because I'm small (this dress makes them look much bigger for me since it has boning in the corset), but I weigh 165 pounds and am 5'3" so I can speak from the short perspective. This is with 1 inch heels, too. But I think the corset really pulled me in for a great shape. AND I don't have to worry about gaining/losing weight this month because the corset fits to me. It is very comfortable, too.

ETA: Added more pics. Excuse the messy skirt. The seamstress just threw up the bustle really quickly because she was busy.

Rosemary, I love, love, love the first pic. Absolutely stunning in every way.

ETA: Pancakes, you look amazing in your gown. Fantastic waistline.

sjd85 -- that's a beautiful gown. Is it white or blush (the coloring of the photo looks more blush)?

I am still dress shopping, but I am focusing on sheaths and drop waist dresses. My hips are small comparatively, so I want to highlight them to show off my shape and make me look less like big boobs and a big skirt.
