Wedding Dress Shopping!

Carly, on October 11, 2019 at 11:56 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12
Hi everyone!

I have my first appointment to look at wedding dresses tomorrow. I’m so excited (and nervous!) Any tips? What to wear, how to get deals, how to make sure it’s productive? I don’t expect to “say yes to the dress” tomorrow, but definitely hope to figure out exactly what I’m looking for. Any and all advice appreciated!

-If you have it, wear any shapewear, seamless underwear, strapless bra or best bra you have.

-it isn’t needed, but I wore my wedding shoes to get an idea of skirt length. I even brought my fake flowers to see about dress styles.

-Do your makeup! Feel pretty and lovely.

-bring a hair clip to try each dress with your hair up or down!

    -Go in with a budget!

-They will more than likely put headbands, belts, or veils on you. Some might push you to buy it, but most of the time, they are just trying to be helpful if you haven’t considered them.

-Try anything. Stay open minded and get pictures of the front and back of every dress you slightly like. This will give you something to look back on and see if you like it after the fact.

There’s probably more info out there, but that’s what I’ve got from going last week to my first appointment!!

Wear something comfy. I didn't wear shoes similar to what I wanted to wear for the wedding, but it doesn't really matter because it was more important to me to focus on how the dresses fit. Just relax. I went with David's Bridal, and she gave me a shaper and a slip to wear under dresses. Biggest thing is to try on a little of everything - I almost didn't get my dress because I was deadset on ballgowns. Lucky for me I remembered the "try everything" advice. I'd also go in with a list of dresses you like so you can try to find a starting point! Congrats and good luck!

I recommend going with your hair and makeup done. And in an outfit you feel pretty in. Made a huge difference to me when i tried on dresses. I don't wear makeup daily and don't really "do" my hair other than a ponytail and I'm in scrubs all day. So it was nice to see the whole vision instead of just the dress.

Hey Carly Smiley smile How did your dress shopping go on Saturday? Did you get a better idea of what you’re looking for in a dress?

Go hydrated, drink a ton of water before & eat a good filling breakfast or lunch depending on time. Take a LOT of pictures so you can reflect at home after. Try on all styles & dresses even if you think you won't like them.

Hi! The trip was wonderful! However, I fell in love with 2 VERY different dresses. One very much what I pictured myself in, and one very different. I am so torn. I’m scheduling another trip next month when my fiancé’s mother is in town to try them both on again, and maybe a few more for good measure.

    Oh that is tough!

What are both of them like?

Take some time to think about it! The next time with you try them on with your FMIL, you may feel completely different about one or the other (or maybe both!). It's great that you're not rushing a decision! Take some time to mull it all over Smiley smile

One is an A dress with a beautiful neckline, lots of lace, soft flowy skirt, sort of a vintage vibe. Think pride and prejudice with a little more cleavage. The other is a slightly more formal fit and flare, also lace but a more intricate lace design, form fitting, not flowy at all (this is the one I wasn’t expecting).

"Pride and Prejudice with a little more cleavage" - LOVE it Smiley xd

They sound quiet different in the silhouette for sure!

Do either have a train? Is a train something you wanted in a dress or no?

The fit and flare and a bit of a train, the other doesn’t. A train wasn’t something I wanted at first but it would be able to be pinned up without too much difficulty for the reception. I have photos of them both (can’t posts them here as my fiancée is connected to this app/account) but I keep changing my mind on which is my favorite haha.

You're not under any pressure to make a decision Smiley smile Take some time. Things may be a lot clearer next month when you revisit and try them on again!
