Wedding dress shopping vs covid options

Cynthia, on March 31, 2020 at 7:00 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 6
The David's Bridal location I was going dress shopping at already had to reschedule my March appointment to April, and now the county that it's in has extended their Shelter in place through May 3rd. Our wedding date is 10-10-2020, which would put us at 5 months before the wedding. Is that cutting it too close? I'm debating between just ordering online now, and trying on with who would have gone with me via video chat, or rescheduling for during May, hoping that things get better and it doesn't have to be rescheduled a third time, and hoping that I can find my dress the first time and don't have to continue shopping around so I don't push it closer to the wedding date. Thoughts?

I ordered a dress for my April wedding in December. Granted, it was a different time. I think you'll be fine waiting until you can try things on, but we also don't know when that will be. If you wait, you'll be stuck with what they can get for you in your timeframe. So if you're leaning towards a particular style and its designer, I would try ordering it and see what happens. Most of their dresses are in the warehouse, some will be special ordered. It just depends on the dress. Are there any you're leaning towards?

I ordered my dress for a May 9th wedding at the end of Jan. They told me it would take a month to arrive. It was at the store a week later! I've heard that David's Bridal always tells the latest arrival date, just in case, so that could be what happened for mine and might mean you'd be fine too. The manager at the also told me they recommended six to eight weeks for alterations. But that was before all the coronavirus stuff started, and each store may be different.
I think they're doing a big sale online right now, and you should be able to return it, so it might be worth ordering a dress if you really like one. Especially if it'll make you feel less stressed.
But just know you might not like a dress as much on you as in the pictures. There was a dress I found on their website that I swore to myself was going to be the one. I just added a few others that I liked to my profile to feel like I tried. Once I saw them on me, I fell in love with one I'd added at the last minute and compared all other dresses to that one. Including the dress I thought I'd pick.

    Hi Cynthia,

I hope the comments above are helpful to you. I think you could do a combination of waiting to see what happens with David's Bridal *and* shopping online. It never hurts to have options!

We recently published an article about How to Get the Wedding Dress Shopping Experience From Home During COVID-19 . Have you tried contacting any of your other local bridal salons? We have found that many vendors are more than willing to be flexible during this unprecedented time.

Online/virtual shopping could be another great way to explore options right now. Once you have your measurements, you may be able to order a dress to try at home (after checking the return policy, of course). I wish you the best of luck! Smiley heart

Thank you so much for this comment, it helps a lot ❤

After going through the comments, plus another extension for our stay at home order, I'll be shopping from home. I'll be buying a few dresses online, and my mom will be turning her guest room into a dressing room so I can get a similar experience to what I would get in a store, since it may be another couple months before they reopen.

Getting married in October as well!

I’ve ordered from DB online and as long as it’s in stock it should arrive in a week or so. They also have a 14 day return policy and offer free returns if you don’t like it.
I’m now going with Cocomelody, they offer home try-ons for deject dresses and far more customization options.
