Wedding Dress Regret or Just Bad Pictures?

Rachel, on June 10, 2020 at 3:57 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 29
So I selected my dress one day prior to everything shutting down for Covid-19. The dress in my size has not come in yet so I haven't been able to try it on again since the day I picked it out. The dress is beautiful but it just wasn't what I was imagining for my farm wedding. I'm usually pretty laid-back about these things so I figure I'll stick with the dress regardless.

But all I have to go by when looking back at the dress is a few unflattering pictures of me in the dress. Haha. My mom and sister we're with me and loved the dress. Unfortunately, though, they were not really great photographers! So when I look at the pictures I think "Dear God what have I done?!"
I found a few pictures of women in the dress online and it looks beautiful so I'm probably overreacting. Blah, I'm in a rut!
Any of my fellow brides want to take a look at the images and let me know what you think?! I could use some encouragement!

I think it looks perfectly fine! You're going to look stunning. I'm curious as well, why are you feeling dress regret??

That dress is so pretty on you! The ruffled skirt is so fun and the blingy top is neat contrast. I think it might just feel awkward to you because they took candid photos instead of capturing you smiling. You definitely have thinking face on, so that might be what is making you second guess yourself. You look great! I bet these doubts will go away once you get your dress on for the first time all fitted up properly. Alterations makes a big difference too!

I could definitely see that being beautiful for a farm wedding. You know how celebrities always have the best selfies and posed shots but can look horrible in paparazzi photos? That's because lighting, posing, and a good photographer make a huge difference, so I wouldn't judge your like of the dress just based off these photos. I think with a nicer setting (and much better lighting, it would be difficult to do any dress or model justice in that kind of lighting) you'll like the way it looks a lot more!

I don't know! I loved it when it was on at the time, but seeing these few pictures made me fear I made a mistake! Haha

I had borderline buyer's regret too, until I tried it on AFTER it was fitted. Once it felt like it was made for me, I felt pretty and like a bride.

Also would have helped if I had done my hair/makeup similar to how I am doing it for the big day. I'm more of a visual person and I have to see it all in person since I can't quite imagine it in my head.

Listen, once you have your hair and make up done, I’m telling you you’re going to absolutely love your dress! Once you have the whole 9 yards the shoes the veil the hair the make up everythingOh my God I think you’re gonna look great. Not just saying that to try to make you feel better either. If I truly didn’t like it I just wouldn’t have replied to you LOL! Plus, this is just bad lighting and it’s probably taken with a cell phone or something. You’re gonna look great

I can't remember where I learned this, but I was told to crop your face out of any unflattering photos of you in your dress. I made many weird faces while not knowing my mom was snapping pictures, but cropping my face out of them has allowed me to focus only on the dress itself and not on my weird faces. I'd say you should try that and see if it helps your opinions of the dress. I think it's soo beautiful and that you look amazing in it.

I have had dress regrets, but it always goes away when I put my dress back on lol. I had one last alteration today, and it was finally kind of hitting that I'm getting married in two months. Its honestly kind of crazy! But I would suggest not looking too much at photos. You have to remember you haven't seen it on you, and it is a gorgeous dress that fits you well as the sample. My suggestion would be to take a few breaths and focus on other parts of your wedding. Wait until it comes in and you get to put it on again!

This is beautiful!! I think it looks great, and the pictures are not unflattering. I know I immediately dislike photos of myself in which I'm speaking. For some reason, it makes my face look like I'm mad so I don't like them. It sounds a little dehumanizing, but have you tried cropping your face out (I'm sorry! I feel bad typing it!)? The dress is honestly beautiful!

Dress regret is very common! i went thriugh that many times. try not to overthink it because there is a reason you said yes to it in the first place. it will look amazing for a farm wedding. most wedding dresses are pretty versatile. anyways, i think it is beautiful and the photos arent the slightest bot unflattering. those photos arent the finished product as you will have your hair and makeup done. youre going to look beautiful!

Sweetie-they’re not perfect pics but the dress is too gorgeous! Bling and flowy! On your wedding day with makeup and a pro photographer and the look in your love's eyes, you won’t regret it.

I feel you! After I got my dress and I looked back on some photos the lighting was terrible and it seemed like it emphasized fat on my body etc. but I tried on one size too small too. Once my dress came in and I got to try it on again, I still loved it! Once you have the right size or get alterations it will be much more flattering even in unprofessional photos. But I agree with pp that you look stunning, we are our own harshest critics
