Wedding Dress Question

MrsOtoBe, on June 28, 2016 at 2:38 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 19

For those of you who have already purchased your dress / are experienced with wedding dresses: Do wedding dresses typically come fairly long/too long/longer than normal or are they normally the length of any floor length dress? It seems like every single brides has to have their dress hemmed at least to some extent.

In the past, for long bridesmaid dresses I've had to pay and had extra length added to the hem. I was just beginning to wonder if I will have to do this for a wedding dress or if they generally do come longer than average. If I'll most likely have to add length I'd rather know now so I can keep that in mind/make sure my dress stays in my budget with the extra. Thanks!

I'm six foot tall and tried on about 25 dresses-not a single one was too short, or required any length to be added...most I could even wear heels with if I wanted without alterations. I even tried on a short dress (I loved it!!). Good luck shopping!!

Well it depends on how tall you are. I'm only 5'1", so everything is always super long on me.

Every one I tried on was long and would have to be hemmed.

I am 5'7" and all the dresses I tried on were long enough to wear 3-4" heels with. It does depend on style of dress too. My dress is an a-line gown and without a crinoline slip is long enough for 3" heels. With my full ballgown crinoline, it's perfect to wear kitten heels or flats (which is I wanted. I can't walk in heels).

I think I read somewhere that the industry standard is long enough for a person 5'6"- 5'7" with heels on. But, the majority of wedding dresses will have to be hemmed. Especially since you want it the same length all around. For example, the front of mine had to be shortened mire than the back because I have a huge behind that took up some length.

I'm 5'10 or 11...depends on the dr apparently, anyway the normal length dress is perfect for me, but I'm going to be barefoot on the beach. If I were going to wear heels, I would've ordered the long but for once I was able to order the normal length.

I'm 6' tall so if most of them work for 5'7" with heels, that sounds like it should work well! I'll be in flats because heels and I do not get along #accident prone I was afraid of having to pay a ton to have extra length added on. Thank you for the information!

    ETA: no heels for me

My mori Lee gown came in 3 legnths. I am 5'4" and the shortest length needed zero hemming for my flats.

Most are long for me at 5'3.

Unless you are pretty tall and wearing tall heels you will probably need to hemmed.

I think David's Bridal carries a petite line and so does J.Crew so those may be shorter.

I'm 5'10 and my dress is the perfect length on me in flats. A few that I tried on were too long actually!

Wedding dresses are made long! I'm sure some brands would let you add extra length if you need it.

I'm 5'6", so I'm slightly above average, and I was tripping on everything I tried on. They definitely have a lot of length to them.

Thanks for all the input ladies, I really appreciate it! I'm glad that they seem to be long enough / have length options!

I'm 5'8" and all the regular length dresses at David's bridal hit the floor without wearing shoes.

I'm 5'9" so I am very happy most dresses come in long enough so I don't have to order extra length. My wedding dress hits the floor just where I want it. I understand this is annoying for shorter girls, but at least you can get it hemmed. We usually have to order extra length and then get it hemmed to the correct length. Most of the bridal dresses I tried on recently were long enough without adding extra, except for the ones I tried on at David's Bridal. They were all too short.

Now if I can make all pants come in tall and make all shoes have a size 10.5 (no half sizes over size 10?? wth?? lol) I'd be super happy!

Wedding dresses are made long! Since you are wearing flats you should be fine without having to order extra length

I'm fairly average (5'4") but I remember seeing a lot of gowns online that had length options (petite, regular, long). It didn't come up in conversation when I visited the bridal shops, but they are out there! Good luck!

Oh my gosh Crazyinlove I would be THRILLED if shoes came in a 10.5!

Thanks again for all the information! I feel a lot better knowing more about what's out there going in to this process!
