Wedding dress probs: Sweating bullets

Marlene, on August 10, 2012 at 2:01 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 22

Hey guys,

So, my wedding dress is a million layers, heavily beaded all the way down and after standing in it for about 20 minutes, I'm sweating bullets. I mean, dripping down my back, boobs, legs kind of sweat. Sorry to be so gross and graphic, but it's definitely a problem and so uncomfortable.

Anyone have any great fashion tips for this? I feel like I need to roll my body in baby powder, but my mom said then it might get all crumbly. I was considering wearing something like leggings under my dress, just so my thighs don't stick together (I know, so gross lol). My MOH suggested shapewear, but I do not want to add any additional layers under my dress that will make me appear thicker or make me even hotter.

Thoughts? Great suggestions and ideas are welcome!

Not sure where you live, but it's been really, really hot and humid in the mid-atlantic recently. By mid-October the weather should be cooler and your dress more comfortable.

I live in the desert Smiley smile

Last year in Arizona, it was 100 degrees in October! Sometimes it's cooler by that time of year, sometimes it's not. It's a bit hit or miss. I really just have to pray to the weather gods....

It was 115 when I tried on my dress last!

Jeesh, will you be inside most of the time? Just have the air cranked up on like 35 degrees?? haha, then everyone else will be freezing lol

I cant really think of anything that would help this situation. Is the wedding inside or outside?

Marlene--I am worried too. I live in Phx as well and know I will still be hot. I did my first alterations when it was super hot and I wanted to die.

the leggings are a great idea! I bet we can find thin ones that would work

Well hey fellow (sweaty) Arizona bride!

I was going to use the baby powder trick but didn't want to smell like a baby's behind all day. I saw this in a Sephora email a while back (its sold out right now but I found it on Amazon too)... its a powder that acts like a "veil" between skin and clothing to help keep you dry. I was going to buy some this week and test it out in the hot Phoenix sun.

There's a magical thing called "body glide for her". It's like a deo stick that is anti chaffing and since I discovered it I never wear a dress without applying some on my thighs!! It may not help with the sweat or heat but will certainly keep your thighs from sticking together!!!

The body glide I bought at a sports authority. It's meant for cyclists and athletes to avoid chaffing so believe me it is awesome!!

Although my dress isn't beaded, it's made of a very thick, heavy satin. There is a hoop sewn into the skirt which keeps the layers of the skirt away from the body. The hoop was part of the original design, but I know they can be added to most dresses. It might be something to consider. The sales associate at the boutique said the hoop would help to keep me nice and cool!

I at one point was swaying the skirt to cool down my lower half...I got married in march and it was unreasonably warm

Oh Marlene I'm so happy you posted this!! By the way congratulations date twin!!! I just picked mine up two weeks ago and was dying in it! But it was a hot day and the hair at the bridal shop was not working great. But this past week I had my first fitting and it was cooler and I thought the room was nice when I first entered, but your description is how I was and felt. And I was telling FH i wanted to figure out a battery operated fan to attach down there!! LOL

Wow there are so many AZ brides here right now. I am yet another one. I dont have ideas that can help with that but the heat is very unpredictable here.

I have the same problem but more so for the face sweat. My forehead beads up, my cheecks under my eyes, and behind my ears. I refuse to have my video or pictures with me constently blotting myself. I googled it, and a natural solution is witch hazel and aloe vera cream. Use a cotton ball for the witch hazel and since that dries your skin up, the aloe vera will help. I've used the the witch hazel for 4 mornings now, and usually I'm sweating in all this humity in VA, but my cheecks are dry and my forehead isn't dripping, just with little baby pops. So hopefully I can get the cream and have my skin used to it by my wediding. Because my satin and multi-organza layered dress is hot too!
