Wedding Dress on EBAY?

Jessica, on January 25, 2011 at 5:42 PM Posted in Planning 0 16

So i am looking on ebay, and i am finding absolutley amazing dresses for under $100, some as low as $10, has anyone ever purchased a dress off ebay, were you satisfied, unsatisfied etc...i know it has a 7 day moneyback guarantee, so if i dont like it i can always send it back, but just wondering if anyone had any experiences with ebay.

If it's an individual seller, then you may be ok. If it's a website, then they are probably made in China. There are mixed reviews about the dresses ordered from China, I would do some research and try to find reviews from actualy purchasers.

Those are knockoff dresses from China most likely. Who's the seller? I would say if it is a seller with a once-worn dress or something for $100, go for it! But you never know what you might get form SOME of the Chnia sites. Do your homework, some are actually pretty good! Some, not so much...

Well, that's true. But, bridal gown sizing is really different from street sizing, so that's a problem sometimes. The other thing is that you can't try it on first. Also: check the shipping, it's often more than the dress, and should you not like it, you have to payit again to return it.

David's Bridal has $99 sales all the time...I would start there.

The ones form China are knockoffs and are not as good as quality. My cousin bought her grad dress on eBay from a seller in China, She paid more for shipping thant the dress, and then my grandma went to alter it. It was a nightmere. She couldn't believe the lack of quality in it. Now, that is just one seller. But I think the general consenus is that most people are not happy with their knock off dresses. That 7 day return policy, does that mean you have 7 days to return it (like, it gets to them in 7 days) after you recieve it?

If they are located in Chnia, there is NO way to get it there in 7 days. Just sayin.

Btw most of the photos on their sites are photos of the actual designer's dresses, not the finished product that you will get. Just a heads up.

The problem is that you don't get free shipping to send it back. And that may cost almost as much as the dress did.

Also, seven days is not much time to evaluate a wedding dress. If it looks to you like it has issues that could be fixed with alterations, you may not find out until after the seven days are up that the alterations would be more expensive than the dress, or that the alterations are impossible due to the fabric or workmanship of the dress.

If you want to look on eBay, I'd stick with dresses from individual sellers--either used ones, or ones brides changed their minds on before the wedding.

I did get my dress on Ebay, it was a $1200 Christina Wu and I paid $80 (and it is perfect) but made sure to use sellers from the US. My seller now only sells sashes but the list below are sellers that I did convo with.

    Bridalsamples

    formal2u

    carjonmtuck

    April-nicole

    Good luck!

Oh by the way, those sellers list dresses that are floor samples from wedding shops. So they have never been worn for a wedding, but have been tried on. If there are any defects those sellers will note them and show pictures as well.

The dress i found is from china, its only $36, free shipping, 14 day money back guarantee so if its only $40, its worth a shot right?

Two brides that I personally know have ordered their gowns from online stores in China. While yes, the dresses are imitations, the quality is OK and it looks similar to the real thing. And for less than au$200, that's a huge bargain considering you will only wear the dress once in your life.

the current dress I want is au$3000 at retail stores. on this site (www.peridress.com) it's only au$200. For me that's an easy decision!

I'll be ordering it early next week so I hope I won't have to take back my good review when it arrives!

I bought mine from ebay, but it was an individual seller. She had bought the dress and then found another one that she liked better. So she was trying to sell the first one. The dress just happened to be the ONE that I wanted from db and regular price was $110. I paid $600 for it.

If you are buying from an ebay store that makes the dresses, I would read their reviews and see what others said about their purchases. That's how I usually make my decisions when buying stuff on ebay. I mean, if it's only $0, it's not too big of a deal, I would think.
