Wedding dress lay away?

krystle d, on February 16, 2012 at 10:17 PM Posted in Planning 0 20

Has anyone heard of bridal shops offering lay away for their dresses or have some kind of payment plans? Dresses are so expensive and I don't have that chunk of money to spend on my dress right now.

I don't know about layaway, but when I ordered my dress I only paid a deposit. I paid the remaining balance after the dress came in. I can't remember the percentages.

That's one difficult part of budgeting for the wedding - so many things need to be paid up front, at least partially. Definitely something to take into account when figuring out a savings plan! Adds a layer of trickiness to the overall budget.

Mine is on layaway. I am going to get it saturday. They set up payments for every month. But I just needed a couple weeks.

Most places have some sort of payment plan where you leave a deposit (any where from 30% to 60%) and then you pay the remainder when you pick up your dress.

I know DB where I got mine from does but most stores offer a payment plan and only ask for an initial deposit when ordering. Good luck~

I ordered mine from a small bridal boutique and I had to pay 50% of my dress to have it ordered and then I paid the remainder when the dress came in last weekend.

Oh & my dress took 5 months to come in.

I had to pay half as a deposit, and the other half when it came in.

We payed for the whole thing, but we could have paid for in 2 or 4 payments.

Thanks ladies this is a sigh of relief. I'm going this saturday to a couple stores and i'd hate to fall in love with a dress and not being able to have it. If at least I could pay a deposit then that would be so much better.

I went to DB (but didn't buy the dress) and they asked if I was going to pay in full or make a deposit. don't know how much because I didn't buy it but I know that they offered it.

DB offers a credit card. It is purely for that store and you can add anything you buy from there onto it. The card allows you six months to pay it off. That is what i ended up doing since i got a pricier dress then planned and could not pay for it at the time.

I put my dress on layaway at DB and just payed monthly payment. You have to put 25% down. The layaway was for 60 days and they will not order the dress until you pay it off so what I did was put my dress in by itself and then I put my accessories like my veil, tiara, and skirt in another layaway. I hope this helps.

I purchased my dress at an independent shop. I paid an initial deposit and then paid monthly on the dress.

I paid 50% at the time of ordering and I will pay the other 50% when I try it on this weekend, they required the 2nd 50% within 30 days of the dress coming in. It's been 5 months since I ordered the dress so more than enough time to save up the other 50% =).

I put mine in the layaway @ DB, which is a 60 day layway, @ the end of my layaway my dress was already there. I didnt have to wait on it to be ordered.

Most bridal salons offer payment plans. However, I'd seriously ask you to consider less expensive dress options or take a deep look at your budget.

One of the things too many brides do is make an unrealistic budget and forget to lay out exactly where the money is coming from, with due dates, etc. They also fail to plan for non-wedding emergencies.

But you are definitely approaching the time where you need to be ordering your dress. You've already ruled out a few of the higher end designers because of shipping times. Sadly, with some things going on in the industry right now, dresses are taking long and longer to get in.

I paid a deposit on my dress when I ordered it, back in August. I had a payment plan set up that was set to have the dress paid off by May. Just paid it off last week though with the tax return.

Bridal Salons aren't usually so insane as to believe you have cash/credit up front for the whole dress payment. In fact, they're hoping you're open to a payment plan so you'll buy a more expensive dress than you might have otherwise. Smiley winking

I wasnt expecting to find my dress the day I went out with my daughters, so I wasnt prepared to shell it all out, so they let me put down a deposit and just said make payments if you want, or just pay for it when you need it, they were so kind, * its in my closet now, makes me happy to have it here

Thanks ladies! This def helps alot and as tempted as I am going to be to go over my budget i'm going to try my hardest to stick to it. DB is the first place i'm stopping at tomorrow with my BM's. And when you say "payments" does this mean you had to open a credit card with them or was it something else?
