Wedding Dress Laundry

Hello there!
I bought my wedding dress online and I just received them yesterday. It was certainly beautiful. But it smells mile it just come from the factory. If any of you experience the same, would you put your dress for dry cleaning before wedding? Or just air it out? Also, I made a research, wedding gown dry cleaning is soon expensive. In my case, just as expensive as buying a new dress. What did you do with your dress?

    I didn’t experience this when I received my dress, but if I were you I’d air it out first for a few days and be prepared for it to need to be dry cleaned.

    I would just air it out unless it's visibly soiled.

    Air it out, put some bowls with baking soda (like 1/4cup each in maybe 3 bowls) and set them around the dress, it'll help pull smell from it. Discard of the baking soda when finished.
    You can also try to spritz it with some linen spray for it to seep into the dress

    Hi there Lia!

    I would definitely recommend you air the dress out for a couple of days and see will this get rid of the smell. If not, you may need to get it professionally cleaned. It’s totally worth trying to air it out and getting it cleaned as a last resort.

    As Brooke suggested, placing baking soda is some bowl underneath and around the dress is a great idea. Baking soda absorbs smells so it any help with getting rid of the smell Smiley smile

    Where did you get your dress from?

    Hello Ladies,

    Thank you for your reply. I will for sure try the Baking soda trick. At the moment the dress is back in the vacuum bag. As I am afraid that my cat might pull the tulles of the skirts if I hang them. I need to find a secure place to hang it first.

    @cliodhna - I bought my dress online from lightinthebox.com.

    I bought a garment bag and hang the dress in the bag. Right now the dress is at alteration. But already less smelly from the last time I received the dress. Once I arrive in the US, I will have to book an appointment to press or steam the dress. Because I am planning to pack the dress into vacuum bag. My baggage allowance is only 23kg and I have a lot of things to carry with me. Hopping everything will be okay.

    It's great that the smell is starting to come out of the dress!

    Do you have a lot of alterations that need to be made?

    Yeah, it needs to be taken off about 2 inches on both sides and replacing the belt with a smaller belt.

    Thank you, Sinead.
