Wedding dress disaster... UPDATE!

Megan&Jess, on February 12, 2017 at 9:45 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 76

Just need to vent... I bought my wedding dress 7 days ago. I love it so much, i felt so good when I tried it on. My consultant at davids bridal did not button it all the way because she said there were too many buttons to do... she just grabbed both sides of the dress and pulled it together and said it fit perfectly. She never took my measurements. So I paid $800 for the dress, Ithought it fit perfectly because I was so comfortable in it, but in reality there were huge gaps of areas not buttoned so I couldn't feel the true fit. I went back to davids bridal today for alterations. The seamstress went to button my dress up and guess what? It's too tight. It will button, but just barely and it is incredibly uncomfortable. It is a size 16 and does not go up to an 18. So here I am, my wedding in 25 days, and the dress I bought doesn't fit. I didn't gain weight and I wore the same exact undergarments- remember, I only bought the dress 7 days ago!! So now they're going to order (continued)

The dress in a 14W and rush it. The manager will call me tomorrow and let me know when they will get it in, then I have to go back for alterations. I am just so frustrated! They took my measurements today and said the 16 is clearly not he right size and that I need the curvy fit of the Women's for my chest and hips. I'm so nervous because this is cutting it really close. I was in tears. I just had to vent, it was such a long and stressful day. I just wish this appointment had gone better. And it's all because the consultant didn't take my measurements and didn't feel like buttoning the dress.

I'm sorry!!! Breathe, breathe. It will work out. It's out of your hands now, so just let things happen as they do. You can't speed things up by stressing, so try to push it away.

Take bubble baths, do yoga, listen to music... Whatever it takes to stay calm.

    It will work out!

My experience with David's was very similar. Though I love my dress, their customer service leaves a lot to be desired. Take a breath try to relax. My dad always tells me worrying is like a rocking chair. Just something to do. Good luck

That suuucks! Worst comes to worse they can exchange the dress if you decide you don't want to have them take it out or if it doesn't work out. I know everything will work out fine! Try not to stress (easier said than done) haha.

That's very frustrating! I'm sorry! I hope the new one that you order fits better, but, if not, I bet it can be let out. I had a somewhat similar experience with David's Bridal in that I bought a sample dress in a size too small. The woman jammed me into it somehow but when I got home and tried it on that same day to show my dad, it was a bit small. Luckily there was room to take the dress out (the seamstress showed me how the dress was made to allow for that). Mine was also from DB, so I bet yours has the same option. My seamstress did the alterations very quickly. This sounds stressful, but I am sure it will work out with alterations.

Unfortunately it can't be let out because the back is mostly lace so they said it wouldn't work, so I'm counting on the new size fitting!! I'm still waiting on the call today to hear when the dress can be delivered to the shop. I'm still full of nerves but really hoping the new size fits better! If it doesn't I don't know what I'll do because the dress doesn't come in a bigger size if this one doesn't fit

You will not go without a dress on your wedding day! There is always a solution and it sounds like one is coming into play. Please post with an update when your dress comes in! I would love to see it!

Is the back open? If not, you could consider maybe looking into some sturdy shapewear. When I was in choir ( a long long time ago) we had to rent our dresses, and one of the girls could not get the one that was supposedly her size (but had been altered smaller on) she went and got a long line bra that helped tremendously, and her dress fit perfectly!

    Just a thought!

    It will all work out!

I already have a corset! But that's a good idea!

They called me and the dress will be in Wednesday, I have an appointment this Thursday for alterations! I'll be relieved when I try it on and it fits!!!

That is incredibly frustrating, I totally would have cried. David's Bridal should take responsibility for this issue if the dress doesn't end up fitting - I know that would totally suck, but at the end of the day you might be able to get a different dress. Tell them they need to compensate you for the trouble, because that is just ridiculous.

I know it's easier said that done, but try not to stress----I am sure the associate and manager are so stressed they will do anything in their power to remedy the situation.

That's awful! I'm so sorry! This is definitely why I won't go to davids bridal. They were nasty/rude to me and I couldn't imagine feeling the way you do. Hopefully all works out for you!

I bought my dress at David’s bridal and they never took my measurements. Do they normally do that? I also got my dress 8 months before the wedding and they told me I was cutting it close by waiting that long. With yours only a month away I'm surprised they let you order one. Is there another dress on the rack that fits better that they might let you exchange it for??

You bought a dress a month before your wedding or it just came 7 days ago? I hope all goes well

I hope you spoke with the manager about this. Not measuring you is completely inappropriate, especially for a wedding dress. The shop where I bought my dress measured me, and we figured out the size. Alfred Angelo also measures prior to ordering to ensure the correct size. Your consultant SHOULD have at the least measured you, AND since you liked the dress enough to buy it, she should have buttoned it all of the way. Sorry this is happening.

@AprilWedding, I would hope DB measures you. Everywhere else has required measurement just to pick your size.
