Wedding Dress alterations and attire

When you make an appointment with your bridal boutique or seamstress about 2-3 months before your wedding, that is when you will first take your dress. The style and fabric of your dress will determine what kind of undergarments you can wear.

My seamstress recommended coming in around 10 - 12 weeks before the wedding for my first fitting. My dress has a built in bra and doesn't really show panty lines, so I still wore nude underwear, but didn't worry about trying it with what I'll actually wear day-of.

My wedding is August 10th and I didn't have my first fitting until July 5th. My second/hopefully final fitting will be July 29th. I didn't need a lot done so once I go in on Monday and everything is as expected, she'll steam the dress and it'll be ready for pick up.

I'm already tall and wearing flats so I didn't have to put on my shoes; even though I brought them with me. I also don't have any special undergarments that I needed to bring along.

As the pps mentioned, I would recommend scheduling your first fitting around 3 months before your wedding. If you already have your shoes that you will be wearing, it'd be a great idea to bring them along too!
