Wedding day underwear. What do you wear?

Elizabeth, on September 9, 2021 at 7:52 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 20
I've checked a few different sites that offered "wedding day under garments" and some go for super comfy granny looks. Others are more focused on shape wear and some go for sexy. I just assumed you wore something sexy for when you take off your dress on the wedding night (sorry for the imagery lol). What do women wear?

My dress does not require shapewear or bra (thank goodness lol) so I got some comfy white lacy cotton panties. I think it really depends on what your dress allows/ calls for!

I agree with Samantha, I think it is totally dependent upon your dress and what works best with it. My dress will not allow for a bra, so I am just not wearing one. The bottom, however, could accommodate any kind of panties I want. Since we plan to have an after party and an after after party, I will probably end up just wearing something comfortable.

I didn't need shapewear or a bra for my dress, so I just found some cute/sexy panties that I knew my husband would like. He's a simple man, so just a cute tiny pair of panties with a little ruffle trim was all that was needed.

My dress won't need a bra, so my current plan is to get some comfy underwear. I'm considering getting a white or nude pair of women's boxers because they help with thigh rub. FH and I will have been together for nearly 7 years at that point and are already talking about how exhausted we'll be after so we know we'll just wait to do anything sexy until we get some sleep lol.

I also won't need a bra with my dress, or at least I wasn't wearing one when I tried it on while shopping.

I'm hoping I don't need shapewear, but will wait for my fittings to decide if I do. If not I'll just get something comfy, maybe sexy.

Our wedding wont be over until 11 PM, and as someone who typically goes to bed at 8:30 I'm not sure how awake I'll be for wedding night activities lol

My dress has cups sewn in and the back wouldn't allow for a bra anyway so skipping that, and I'm likely going to be wearing something more comfortable for underwear. If I want to put on sexy lingerie for my FH after the reception, I'd just change in the hotel

Lots of good points of view here. I don't ever wear a bra (makes me look way too top heavy so I usually just wear a tank like I'm 11) so my wedding won't be any different in that regard I guess. Also I suppose you could get a tad sweaty and gross with everything that's going on and you probably wouldn't want to ruin your sexy wedding night lingerie like that before you even get a chance to show it off. We are going straight to a secluded cabin in the woods with a fireplace and hot tub for our mini moon right after the wedding and I'm probably mostly just going to pack lingerie because we've been together 10 years and have a very time consuming 6 year old boy (we need this mini moon! Lol). I just didn't know if it was supposed to be like the movies where you get to where you're going after the wedding and he helps you take your dress off and then BAM! You're already ready in all your lingerie glory! 😆 I suppose that's probably a little unrealistic with as involved as most weddings get.

Most lingerie these days are so skimpy that I don’t think it would even hold up under my dress with all the dancing and partying we will be doing! LOL I have a feeling delicate little straps would be broken and lingerie falling down. And forget about a thong! Oh my gosh, I couldn’t imagine the chafing my butt would get dancing in a thong all night! 😆

That would be horrible feeling and distracting as hell. Once you grow up and become a woman thongs aren't as fun anymore with all that booty lol. Very good points! Don't want any crazy middle school dance fashion faux pas happening on our special days (I was dancing in 7th grade and my pants ripped up the middle of the backside and everyone seen my undies. I will never forget it! Lol)!

I went for comfort and a little bit of shapewear!!

Getting out of your dress at the end of the night is quite the process anyway, so you can always change into something a little more sexy!

I wore a white, lacy thong under a pair of spanks. It was just for me. When I got home I took off my dress and put on a simple night gown(not much of a sexy lingerie gal). I don’t think most lingerie is practical for under your dress anyway.

So, I thought about this too. Obviously it will really depend on the dress and whether it will require shapewear, or even just a particular type of knicker - seamless, thong style, etc etc.

My dress doesn't require shapewear, so I wanted something pretty. I bought this set by Dita Von Teese, since our main wedding colour is a peachy pink:

Wedding day underwear. What do you wear? 1

you can't actually see in that image, but it's got a shimmery, beetle-wing quality to it which is really lovely.

Here's the thing though... I think the dress is going to be too tight in the waist area to wear that suspender belt (which I wanted to wear with stockings, since we were getting married in a cooler season until we postponed) without it being visible. Then, the bust area of the dress has cups sewn in, and you'd see any bra you tried to wear with it, not that you need one - it is supposed to be tailored to not require a bra.

So, all that is really left to wear is the knickers.

I don't think to be honest, that many/any women really have that moment where their new husband unzips the dress and they step out in full lingerie. It just doesn't work with most wedding dresses, but I still love pretty lingerie and I like wearing it for me, so I still wanted something sexy and pretty on my wedding day, even if it's not that practicable! Plus I can wear the rest of the set on our honeymoon!

I've got cups sewn in - so no bra. I also have a nude, seamless, lazercut thong because my dress is tight against my hips and butt - so tight that if i dont wear nude or seamless (ie lace or white or anything) it will show. Let your dress help dictate your undergarments!

No bra with my wedding dress and had cups sewn in. I will be wearing nude color seamless underwear under the dress. I’ll wear prettier things for the honeymoon. By the time we get back to the hotel I’m sure we will both pass out!

Now that you mention it I feel like I read that in a magazine when I was a teenager. Not a bad idea for a long wedding/ reception. Ours is only 3-4 hours total so not much of an issue for me, but great advice to think about for most. Although if you're planning on doing the sexy garter removal you may end up accidentally flashing all of your guests! Woo! That would be a memorable wedding for sure lol.

At my first wedding my underwear was my something blue. I agree that most dresses won't let you get away with much. I'd say wear what you want - but also, give anything you want a trial. After all, most lingerie can itch, ride up in uncomfortable ways, pinch, or be uncomfortable in other ways. One of my friends has referred to it as 10 minute wear. Make sure you can make it longer than that if you plan to wear it all day. I'm sure if you get the unzip moment, being braless will be distracting enough. Smiley laugh
