Wedding Day and Period

Krystina, on April 28, 2015 at 8:17 AM Posted in Planning 0 37

So I know this may be TMI but what do you do if you are on your perioid your wedding day? I'm talking not just light bleeding but super heavy a pad an hour bleeding? It just occured to me that this is a very real possibility for me on my wedding day. I could be off though on my calculations since I'm not always regular. I would think tampons would be totally out of the question and pads aren't much better. I'm thinking about trying to change pads or tampons while in my wedding dress and the thought of blood on the gown before the ceremony(or at all) terrifies me. How do you handle a siituation like that? Also birth control isn't an option as I just started my period this morning and my wedding is next month so I wouldn't have a chance for it to kick in, not to mention I always gain a lot of weight on birth control.

You could try to take BC starting Sunday for 2 weeks and then stop. This should kick start it early so you'd be done. That being said, if you started this week your period should be here the week before your wedding, not the week of. it's every 28 days so you should be clear by a week or more by JUne 6th.

I'm not really sure what your options are if you're not on birth control. Mine is scheduled to start the day after my wedding, which is also 2 days before we leave for our honeymoon, and I'm just going to roll into the next pack of pills so I won't get it.

I feel your pain about irregularity/heavy bleeding. I was like that before I got on the pill. This won't help with your wedding day question, but you should talk to your doctor about different options. Birth control can make a world of difference with those problems, and there are so many different varieties of the pill alone - not to mention other forms of BC - that there is something for almost everyone.

Can't I just die instead of thinking about this. Geez being a girl alone is a lot, but being a bride for a day you really have to think about EVERYTHING.

I'm like you. I don't always have regular periods. Man, I was just worrying about having to pee too much. I didn't even think about my period! Ughh. I usually use tampons, but I don't even know how I can get it out with my big ole dress on. TMI, but I'm now scared if I have to change my tampon what if it gets on my dress!? Yuck!! I think I'm going to bring latex gloves and when I change I can just use them to pull it out and wrap it up with the glove as soon as it's out, so it'll only (hopefully) touch the glove on my hand. Wow, that was a lot of TMI. I think that's what I'll try to do if I soo happen to get my period that day. Ugh.

Not sure what kind of gown you have, but the trash bag trick may add a little bit more protection and keep your dress safer during bathroom visits:

And if you can fit them under your dress, some tight shorts (like biker shorts) over your underwear.

Diva Cup. Yeah, it sounds gross when you read about it, but it's saved me many times. No risk of TSS, no leaking. It took me one full period to get used to it, and inserting it properly, but since then, I can't imagine not using it.

I'm following as I was just sitting here calculating my period and realize I'd have mine as well. My cycle is completely messed up. I should be on BC to control it but after the wedding we will be TTC and I don't want to delay the chances by going on BC. Now when I say my cycle is messed up I mean, I get it every other week almost. With us leaving for our honeymoon 2 weeks after the wedding I have to worry about getting it on the wedding day and then again on our honeymoon. I've been on BC before and am use to it so I'm not worried about having to take it, I'd only be worrie about it messing us up when we are TTC

Good point GeekyBride! I've never used them, but have heard a lot of good things about them. They also work with other organizations to get lady-time protection to women in the developing world.

I also vote for a menstrual cup.

The only problem with that is you'd need practice and since you started today, I'm guessing you won't have another period in between now and your wedding.

I was going to suggest the Divas Cup too. I've never used it (I have a Mireana IUD so I haven't had a full period in over a year), but a few friends swear by it. You should be able to wear it all day.

I've already figured this out what I'm going to do. So, I actually can't take birth control pills regularly because I'm high risk for clots. But I've taken plan B as a precaution to other forms of bc (because I'm very paranoid about this stuff). Every time I've taken it, exactly a week after the pill I would get my period (even if I had it a week before). So it kind of resets your period.

I know plan b is kind of controversial, but you can buy it over the counter now and from what I remember, it's like taking all the pills in your birth control all at once (don't quote me, I could very well be wrong). Obviously it depends on how comfortable you feel about doing that, but every time I've taken it, one week later I start. So I know that's what I'll be doing for mine.

I say garbage bag! I know someone who had a lot of success with it! It may be a possibility for me to (unfortunately) since my last 2 periods came a week early (probably because of stress) I'm just hoping that it comes a week early again because that would mean that I'd be done the day before the wedding... Being a woman *insert raspberry*

I have been seeing a naturopathic physician who recommended that I take DIM, which is a supplement designed to balance estrogen surges, which can be responsible for irregular periods. I have tracked my cycle for the past three years, and since taking it regularly for the past five months, I have noticed that my cycle has become much more regular. Instead of varying between 25 and 31 days, it is between 27 and 28 days. It can also lighten periods, but not always. Mind you I am not advising you to take it, but it may be worth asking your physician. I buy my supplements OTC via Amazon, as they are more affordable that way and are from a reputable company.

My friend recommended one of those cups, which I think could be a bit cumbersome in a big dress, though I have never used one, so I can't speak to them. Playtex has Ultra sized tampons, which work relatively well, and I think the garbage bag idea between your slip and your dress or under your slip may be a good idea.

Just take birth control - It'll probably screw up your period a little but oh well. As long as you do't have it for your wedding day right??

Going by my period tracker I will get my period the same day as my wedding Lol I don't think my doctor will prescribe me birth control since i had a tubaligation so tampons will have to be, if I do get it that day.

I'm not really sure why a tampon isn't an option. If you are afraid of leakage use a tampon with a pad backup. Everyone's body is different, but I think Tampax are better for preventing leakage than Playtex. I haven't tried the Diva Cup but it sounds promising. Use a garbage bag to protect your dress when you use the bathroom.

Birth Control can start right away. My sister is on the Depo shot, she didn't have her period that next month. I got the implant in my arm right after my last period, no period this month. The Depo shot last 3 months, weight gain will happen. It might not be that big of deal if you only use it once. My doctor said weight gain is rare with the implant. I actually feel like I am eating less.
