Wedding Date

Kristina, on August 22, 2019 at 6:11 PM Posted in Planning 0 5
So my fiancé and I live in New Orleans and plan on getting married here (in 2022 because of school timing). We are torn because our anniversary is in August (I want to get married then or near that day plus it’s cheaper for us and our guests) but he really wants a Fall wedding (think October or November when all the wedding stuff prices go up by a fair amount). He’s ok with having it in August but isn’t wild about getting married in August in New Orleans (it’s hot as hell and humid). Any suggestions about how to choose a date?

Are you planning to have an outdoor wedding? If not, I think having it in August is fine, assuming you'll be inside and in air conditioning! If you do want to have it outdoors I would have it in the fall. October is by far the most popular month to get married, so you may have difficulty in getting vendors, having high prices, getting more of your guests to come then, but November is actually generally considered off-season I believe (maybe different in your region?) but I'd say look into November for sure if you want outdoors.

I live in New Orleans and am planning a New Orleans wedding. I understand you wanting to plan around your anniversary date, but with New Orleans I would DEFINITELY go with a fall wedding. It is so hot and humid! We’re getting married in January. We also planned around Mardi Gras and football season and lent.

If you're wanting a Saturday wedding and your anniversary in 2022 doesn't happen to fall on a Saturday, I would cut your losses and go with the fall wedding personally. At that point, I feel like there's less of an emotional tie to the date. I live in the Houston, Texas area and I fully understand the humidity thing. My current anniversary is October 2nd and we're getting married October 10th but the close proximity was a coincidence. We've always wanted an October weddingSmiley smile At the end of the day, do what makes y'all happy!

    Hey there Kristina Smiley smile

Some great insights and advice from the PPs!

Personally, I feel like the wedding setting (indoor versus outdoor) is the most important factor to decide on before agreeing on a wedding date!

Did you and your FS want to have an outdoor ceremony and reception? Is this why the humidity in August is an issue? If you’re not planning on having any aspect of the wedding outdoors, and it will be in an air-conditioned venue, August could be a perfectly fine month to choose Smiley smile

Thank you all! My anniversary does fall on a Saturday and I am fairly certain that we will have our ceremony inside. We are down to 2 venues, one is outside the other is inside, but we both love the inside one much more and the price is basically the same (just trying to wrangle my fiancé into choosing something is difficult as hell). We're (my fiancé really) worried about the heat and humidity only because 90% of his family is from the Chicago area and complain when it is any higher than 70 degrees 🙄
