Wedding cards

Night of the wedding. For my first wedding we received quite a bit of money- I wouldn’t want to take that on the honeymoon and risk misplacing that or losing it. We documented it and kept it in a safe place until we got back. That’s what I suggest and what I’ll be doing for my second wedding as well just in case!

We opened them as soon as we got home and it was one of my favorite parts of the night! We didn’t plan to do it just happened!

We gave ourselves a day between the wedding and the honeymoon (wedding Saturday and Monday morning flight for honeymoon). That night, we passed out hard. We opened cards and wrote everything down on Sunday. We also got quite a bit of money, so we wouldn't have wanted to take that (or all those cards) on the trip with us.

We opened some the night of our wedding. The rest we opened on our honeymoon. We were too tired to open everything that night!

We opened them the day after the wedding and recorded each monetary gift on a piece of paper. The cards were handed to my parents (my mom was in charge of my personal stuff) for safe keeping. Day of was just too busy and we were too tired after.

We opened them the day after our wedding. If we had left for a honeymoon right away, I would’ve waited until after the honeymoon. As nice as it would be to read cards while lounging somewhere reveling in newlyweddedness, I’d be scared to take the cards with me on any sort of travel ....maybe if we had just driven to a nearby cabin, but I certainly wouldn’t want to fly with them especially not internationally! So much can happen with things getting lost or stolen

We still have to reschedule our honeymoon since we postponed the wedding. But if we leave that next day, then we’ll open them after we return from the honeymoon. If there’s a few days in between, then maybe we’ll open gifts during that time.

We left for our honeymoon the morning after the wedding so opened everything a week later when we got home.

I actually did it night of too!

It'll depend on what we decide to do about the honeymoon. I'd hate to take them with us because I'd be too afraid to lose them. If we leave the very next day, as we had originally planned to, we'll probably open a few during the wedding night and save the rest for when we get back. However, if we wait a day or two to leave, which is what we'd prefer to do, perhaps we'll open them over brunch with our families.

Every couple I’ve known has said they opened them upon coming home from the honeymoon. That way, they are safe with the rest of your gifts.

We plan on opening them the night of our wedding in the hotel room. The hotel is adjacent to the venue and venue staff will take the cards and gifts to our hotel room during the reception. The venue is about 10min away from our apartment and our wedding is Saturday but we don't leave for the honeymoon until Monday late morning. Our reception is also ending at 6:30, so we'll have plenty of time that evening to open them.

We did not leave for our honeymoon immediately so we opened them the day after our wedding. I know we did not want to risk losing anything.

My mother-in-law took the card box home from the reception because my husband and I went out for a little bit with friends after our reception and didn’t have our vehicles. We picked them up the next day and opened them a day or two later, when we could go through them in an orderly process, record who gave which amount, etc. I definitely wouldn’t recommend taking them along on a honeymoon, as that would be a big risk of potentially misplacing or having a lot of money stolen. If going out of town, you might want to leave them with a trusted family member or in a locked safe until you return home.
