Wedding brownies instead of cake?

Jennifer, on January 12, 2017 at 10:57 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 32

Hi! First post here Smiley smile We are doing a small round cake to cut for pictures and doing brownies and ice cream for the dessert (no one actually ever eats the cake!), so I was just wondering if anyone had done something similar and had pictures of ways to display them. Google search has a couple of photos, but I welcome any others! We will have ~200 guests so it will be a big display. Thanks!

**Edit: I shouldn't have said that no one actually eats the cake. That was just the consensus when asking a lot of people their thoughts as we were trying to make a decision. **

Hey! I actually really loved the cake at the last wedding I went to (and took a slice home haha)! Brownies are a cool idea - maybe do like a classic tall pyramid arrangement?

Picture it.. office space.. Milton doesn't get his cake... he threatens to set the building on fire. I'm Milton.

But I like brownies.. I'd be cool with that too haha... no suggestions for display except some sort of fancy stacking..

I will agree, I would rather have brownies! Smiley smile

I am doing a dessert bar. Brownies, variety of bars, cookies, mini cupcakes, and then candy in jars. This will still off "cake" for traditional people.. but I love the idea of something different.

We will have about 600 mini desserts, so each dessert is bite size and we are getting enough for about 3 a person!

    GO FOR IT Smiley smile

I ALWAYS eat the cake and am super pissed when there isn't one.

I've never seen brownies, I'd be interested to see how you decide to display them.

I'm not sure I agree with "no one ever actually eats the cake". Actually, that's not true -- I don't agree with it. I've been to countless weddings, and, umm...yeah, they do eat the cake. In fact, they anticipate it. The guests generally consider the cake cutting to be part of the wedding timeline -- as in, we're getting close to the send off. It's so traditional and so time honored, that your on you're own with this one.

The sun will still rise the next day if your choose to serve brownies and ice cream instead of wedding cake. I have no idea how you would display 200 brownies a la mode. Talk to your photographer.

I disagree that people don't eat cake. But I'd also be cool with brownies. Haha. I've never seen this, but please share what you come up with! You may start a trend. Smiley smile

I definitely eat the cake, but I would also eat the brownies or donuts or cupcakes or pie or whatever kind of dessert is being served. Whatever it is I'll always eat it.

I have no suggestions about how to serve it, but I love brownies and am all for this idea.

We are doing a brownie bar! Our baker said she was gonna to a tower arrangement with toppings down the line Smiley smile I don't know if that helps at all, I was just letting her set it up how she thinks it would be best!

I'm doing the same thing! FH and I hate cake! Or better yet, we hate frosting lol We're having a small naked cake for us and then a full bar of brownies, cake pops, chocolate covered pretzels and strawberries!

I second the pyramid set up!

I love cake. I eat the cake. But brownies are my down fall in life. At a bridal show there was a bakery there that made brownie wedding cakes. It was the most amazing thing I ever tasted! Unfortunately for me it was 4 hours from my venue so I couldn't use them,

I would like cake at a wedding. Also, i dont think you should have a cake to cut if you don't plan on serving it to your guests! Maybe get sheet cakes to have cut and brought out from the kitchen?

    But i also love brownies(:

The cake was one of the biggest things our guests complimented us on after the wedding. Just putting that out there. People definitely expect cake, and enjoy it. That being said, if you'd like to do some sort of dessert bar instead, that's fine too. I would consider at least having a sheet cake to include with your dessert bar.

Yeah.. lots of people eat cake.... LOTS LOL. I personally love it! Because we're not doing a chocolate cake and FH loves brownies, I was thinking of surprising him w/some at the wedding in addition to the cake! Kinda stacked like a pyramid potentially... (1st idea for displaying)

Unpopular opinion but I hate cake. I don't even eat my birthday cake (my family and FH know this and find me super weird). We're doing a wedding cake and a dessert buffet because I know that I'm the exception and most people LOVE cake. That being said, I'd eat brownies any day of the week so I think it's a good thing to offer on top of cake. Maybe stack them on a cake stand for show?

We're doing a small tower, likely with powdered sugar and some of our wedding flowers with a cake topper. We'll have other desserts on a dessert bar, so the tower won't be too giant. FH doesn't eat cake ever, and I hardly ever eat cake when given other options, so a wedding cake didn't make as much sense for us. We'll have some cake at the dessert bar for others.
