Wedding 4/24 to postpone midst of Covid-19

Hey all. So my big day is April 24th 2020 in Wheaton IL. My fiancé and I are Christians and have been “waiting “ until marriage. We haven’t even kissed so we counted all apart of our special day. That’s just 32 days away. The state has us on a”lock in” until April 7th. But we had guests traveling from inter states including my family. Our venue and caterer work together and they said as of right now our wedding falls after the “lock in” date. However my fiancé hasn’t been able to work and a family member who was helping us fund the wedding pulled those funds. I have no clue where to start. Our church suggested we get married before the Lord and celebrate later. Has anyone had to postpone ? And how did they go about it ? I’m trying to get all the options.

Hi, our wedding was 4/3/20 and we had to postpone. We too, are waiting. We are going to get married on that day still; luckily our pastor is our friend. It will be just us and the Lord, maybe the way it was intended to be. We did push our wedding date to August and we are going to celebrate then. Praying that this will die down by then too.

Thank you for your response it does help to have the support of the church. I just also repaired something. I was feeling bad for having to do this to our guests but God reminded me we’re all going through this together. And the actual marriage is the most important thing. ❤️

I'm so sorry you're dealing with this Iantha! It's heartbreaking! Given how quickly local situations and guidelines are changing right now, it's difficult to make a solid plan. But considering your situation, it might make sense to do as your church suggested and go ahead and get married privately now with a celebration to follow later.

We've gathered some tips and resources you can check out here: COVID-19 Wedding Support Central. You can also connect with other April brides facing the same decisions here:

    Hi Laura,

Thank you for confirming this for me. We prayed and talked with our officiant and he said the same thing. We are going to get married this Thursday with a few members and then postpone the actual celebration until later. It was a tough decision but we decided that our marriage is the most important thing.

On Thursday March 26 surrounded by our church family , in our beautifully decorated home we were married. I wore the dress, he wore the tux. We got catering from our local grocery store and I walked down the aisle which was “our hallway”. My Mom who flew in to see us and she able to give me away and it was perfect. Sometimes things don’t go as planned but surrendering the larger wedding we were actually really blessed. I could live in the moment of seeing my groom weep at the first sight of me in my dress. His “I do “ before the Lord and man is all I’ll ever need. It’s not so much about “things “ as it is about the marriage. This very trying time has taught me God , Love and Family is all I’ll ever need. I hope this blesses someone else.
