Wearing your wedding ring early, bad luck?

Breezie, on March 22, 2012 at 12:05 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12

Ok, so I went to get my ring cleaned yesterday and the sales lady told me that my 4 of my stones were loose. I wasn't really surprised becuase I wear it to work, and I work in a very busy Emergency Dept. Would it be bad luck to wear my wedding ring in place of my engagment ring while the fix it??? My FH almost had a fit when I suggested it saying it was bad luck, but I dont think it would be. My hand feels naked without my ring : (

I don't ithink t's a big deal but everyone feels differently. I know what you mean about naked hand syndrome. I feel like something is missing if I don't have my engagement ring on.

But every now and then I try on my wedding band. I've heard it's bad luck but I'm not superstitious at all. FH begs me to let him wear his but I don't want him to. Mainly cause I'm excited about putting it on his finger on our wedding day. I let him wear his around the house sometimes.

I don't believe in luck. Also I've been wearing my wedding ring on my right hand, b/c it's pretty. Smiley smile

So......no. To me it's the vows that add meaning to the ring. Until then - it's just a metal circle, same as any other accessory. Smiley smile But that's just me.

    Thanks Jaclyn!!!

Kris! I love how you put that, it really is just a metal circle until blessed with vows.

    Thanks Ladies!

Lol well that's just how I feel about it. Other people might have different feelings like Jaclyn said. I tend to be let's say overly practical and not that sentimental when it comes to superstitions. Smiley smile

I understand how your FH feels though, HE wants to be the one to put it on your hand. He doesn't want you to wear it just because your e-ring is in being fixed. It's only a couple of days, you should be able to suck it and go without it for those days. If you really can't then find another that you can wear instead. Look at this way.... would you want your FH to wear his wedding band before the big day? Without you putting it on his hand just because he wanted to? Just because his hand felt naked?

Now on the other hand I do completely understand wanting to wear wedding bands, that feeling of not having something there when you're so to use having that ring there and then all of sudden it's gone - it's a state of panic! So I completely sympathize.

But I would really find something else to wear. I love to wear my bands too, but we are NOT married yet, so just isn't right to wear them. FH hasn't put them on my hand yet, we haven't said those magical words to each other yet.

Pop over to your local Claire's or Icing or whatever cheapie jewelry store you have at the mall and get a CZ substitute to wear while your real one is being fixed. I have a few (haha that I used to use in college to be left alone in bars) and they don't look half bad!

I try mine on a lot. I had a fit issue with it when we got it, so the jeweler told me to wear it off and on for a few days to make sure--it was custom made, can't be resiezed because of the design, and I was panicked, because it was a little too big. I thought I would have to order a new one. After wearing it for a few hours, I took it back to the store and they were able to compress it and make a half size smaller. Now it's perfect, and I want to wear it all the time. I don't know if FH tries his on or not, but we did wear them one full day and slept with them on and woke up wearing them. It was kind of a silly little thrill for two geezers like us. In just 44 days I'll be wearing it all the time! Woo Hoo!! Bad luck be damned!

I don't think its bad luck, mine came as a set that looks funny if not worn together, so my 'band' has been soldered to my engagement ring since the month after we got it.

However- if you FH feels strongly against it I would go buy a cheap ring instead of wearing it to respect his wishes.

Kristen! Great Idea! I am going shopping ladies!

FH has been really funny about my rings lately, I think he looks at them almost as much as I do, and he doesnt want to even see his ring until the day we get married, which I never would have guessed he felt that way. Here is a pic of my ring, all the ones of it on my hand are on my phone, and we have slacked on the e-pics. I would LOVE to wear the wedding ring with it all the time, but I respect his feelings, but I love it so much!

I just got the bands to go with my ring but me and my fiance' hasnt even set a date yet, but oh well, I'm wearing my full wedding set because I look and feel like a million dollars when its on. He hasnt said he wants me to wait to wear them, so I take that as consent. He wants to plan for this huge wedding (because his first marriage was at the court house and he wants a ceremony this time). He's trying to save up money for this elaborate wedding. I had a big wedding for my first marriage so Im good with a small wedding with just the two of us going to the beach and tying the knot. Maybe oneday my fiance' will have enough money to create the dream wedding that he want to have. Ugggghhhh! I love him though so I will give him the wedding of his dreams, but since he's the hold up, I'm going to keep wearing my beautiful ring. I'll just give it to him the day before we get married, so we can say "I do" and he can hurry and give it back to me and we can live happily ever after. :-)
